"The RPC server is not available"

I'm trying to install this mini-disc burner/player thing I got for christmas. I put the installation software disk in. It started installshield...then, it was about to install, then it says "The request could not be processed. The RPC server is unavailable."

Whoever can help me gets a plate of cookies. I need step-by-step instructions that are in English, not programmer-talk please.
