The Claymore, and Other AI Weaponry

I am writing this thread in order to address what I feel is a deficiency in the tactical infrastructure support base. I believe that, as of now, Spitfires and HE Mines, while occasionally a nuisance, are rather useless as to the purpose of killing infantry, due to the superfluity of Decimators at this point in the game. Thus, I propose a solution: the Claymore Mine. A claymore is a kind of mine that, when activated, shoots into the air and releases a hail of shrapnel at around the height of 1m. Below is my idea of specs for this mine:

Claymore

Empire: Common Pool

Damage: Vs. Infantry: Direct damage of 300, decreases by 75 for every 5 meters away the recipient of the damage is. Vs. Vehicles: Direct damage of 125, decreases by 50 for every 5 meters away the recipient of the damage is.

Size: Claymores have a radius of approximately 1/8 of a meter. One package of 3 Claymore Mines takes up inventory space equal to a Pheonix Missile ammunition pack. Claymores are used in the rifle slot of armor.

General Appearance: When a claymore is buried, only part of it is exposed to the surface, making it extremely difficult to see. When being carried in hand, it is a featureless gray sphere, with no markings of any kind.

So, what do ya'll think? Praise, flames, medications... Its all good!

Note: Yes, before you tell me, I know that this is technical a Bouncing Betty, and not a Claymore. But I'm still calling it a Claymore, so live and let die. Thanks to Rayder for the heads up .

It'd basically be like a big boomer? Sounds a bit unecessary...

Not really. Here's some reasons as to why not:

This, unlike the Boomer, is specifically designed for AI combat. It deals less damage than the Boomer, but has a much larger area of affect. Also, it is utterly useless against MAXes, and, rather than being used indoors against large consentrations of people, like the Boomer often is, it is built more along the lines of a static combat defense. When a base is being attacked, the defenders don't have to just throw in the towel: They have Claymores for AI and HE's for AV. The way I see it, defenders in Planetside have a way of getting screwed over, and I want to make base battles a little more interesting.

Wrong mine dude, your thinking of a bouncing betty. Claymores are one-directional mines that shoot out a hail of shrapnel. You can bury em, hang em, whatever, but usually they're buried or put on the ground itself. In a game, a guy gets within a certain range and the claymore will go off. Nothing behind it would get damaged, save for those like 2 game meters away due to explosion. Anything in front would get decimated. And the Decimator is shit for infantry.

This would be an awesome addition to the CE's selection. Good idea for the backpack size as well. This idea gets the Buddy Christ Thumbs Up Award

Well it isn't a bad idea. I, for one, love defending bases. It's my favorite thing to do. However, defenders do tend to get screwed by the lack of defensive capabilities in bases. Turrets are nice, but limited. I like your idea, whether it's called a bouncing betty or claymore, lol.

Something new that's not a weapon for combat engineers at advanced medics? A special armor that has built-in resources?

Otherick, I'm not suggesting that the Devs add Claymores right now. I'm just suggesting that at an undetermined time in the future, the Devs might consider adding them.

I think you've made them a bit too powerfull. That kind of damage should not come in packs of 3 that take up the space of a phoenix missle pack. 1 or 2 would be better when they can do that kind of damage to infantry. They would be most used for covering tower and base doors and we don't want 1 single cloaked CE packing that kind of defensive power in a single trip from the terminal. I also think the damage decay should be exponentially decreasing. Say from 300 at the center of the mine to 0 at about 7 meters (a little over 20 ft away). Decreasing by 75 every 5 meters would give it great damage at too much range.

yes we would need a mine sweeper , maybe when it is in hand u can see mines in ur mini-map ,like maybe a blue triangle r squar on ur map?but only when u get close enough,it would act like the AT laze pointer, it would send a beam to the mine , and only if it is directly on it, then it would give u a meter ,such as hackin doors, then when filled up the mine is disabled
