Microphone Problems

I have a mic, and it's plugged into the appropriate slot (it's pinkish red, has an icon of a mic next to it). When I'm on Teamspeak, there is no lil green button next to my name like everyone else. It's a picture of a mic with a line through it. I tried going to Sound Recorder to test, and it said the device was being used.

Help?
