HD cleanup

I've been thinking about this for a while...i haven't been able to play some games, namely Vice City, and i'm pretty sure it's because my hard drive is loaded.
I've got about 14.4 GB left on an 80 GB HD..

i'd like to know if there's any good way to do this besides a reformat, because most of this stuff is probably in the depths of my directories...

Or, on the other hand, what about piggybacking? is this safe for the overall comp?

14.4 gigs left on the hard drive would not cause your computer to CTD.

If you haven't reformated in over 6 months and you're starting to get random errors, then it's probably time for a reformating.

what happened to defrag? And what does CTD stand for?

CTD = Crash to desktop.

And yes, do defrags often instead of formating often.

Defrag was something that made a difference with the FAT32 file system. If you're running XP with the NTFS file system, defrage will not do much for you unless you do a lot of programming and/or video editing. Even then, it's not really going to fix errors. All defrag does is put the pieces of all your files in contiguous sectors. Which is something NTFS is much better at doing on the fly than FAT32 ever was.
