Vehicle Pad Idea

With all the talk about Phoenixes and Liberators taking down vehicle pads I think a simple solution is to provide some simple cover over the Vehicle Terminal. Just like the cat walk protects AMSes from Bombs just a small enough "roof" over the term would keep bombs from destroying the terminal and would be very difficult for any phoenix user to get that kinda angle into the term. All I envision is a little inverted L shaped roof over the terminal.

~Tide

*EDIT* = by roof over terminal I just don't mean the terminal but also over the heads of the few troops lucky enough to be under it.

If looking at the term it would stretch from behind your head and over the term and be exposed to the front where the vehicles come out. I wish I was any good at graphics and could draw this, but I can't.

I think a better solution would be to cover the in-courtyard terminal, and add 2 more pads outside each courtyard that are exposed to speed up the queues.

But isn't taking the Vehicle Pad out a legitimate tactic?

Why make getting powerful weapons easier?

It's a tactic only for NC legitimatly. Yes anyone can bomb but that takes precision, like was stated in another thread one Phoenix user alone can cripple an entire emprie from getting vehicles. This is to prevent that.

I take the point about the Phoenix.

But from my understanding (which is probably poor) this wouldn't necessarily prevent that whilst it sounds as if it might well reduce the effectiveness of bombing?

Ever hear of a bolt driver and anyone of those nice hills surrounding a base. You can take out the guys waiting in line for a vehicle which works about the same as destroying the term although not as effective in zergs its possible to get a crapload of kills by just sitting and watching the vpad with a bolt driver. If you can get another sniper with you and coordinate it can be devastating.

Legitimate tactic. Get countersnipers working on it or call in air support.

Its only a tactic that certain bases are vulnerable to. The Dropship Center has a covered air vehicle terminal but has an open ground vehicle terminal. The Tech Facility has both a covered air and separate covered ground vehicle terminals. Other bases have a combined air/ground vehicle terminal and with a few AV hits, a Reaver rocket attack, or a Liberator Bombing can be disabled. Plus, because of the way the queues work you can kill a bunch of people waiting for a vehicle. To me thats just a lame way to disable vehicles for some bases while racking up a bunch of easy soft target kills. Currently these exposed terminals are just Liberator, Flail, and to a lesser extent Reaver and Phoenix bait.

Because of this I dont see a problem with covering all of the terminals to protect the terminal itself and those waiting for their ride. Perhaps this change could come with an increased difficulty with repair to make a special ops raid to disable the terminal worthwhile. Maybe a terminal down time after destruction timer? Or perhaps just make it difficult to repair. So it would have the same armor value it has now but perhaps repair as if it had 10x as much to facilitate the delay penalty. This would add the dynamic of special ops taking down the terminal and the counter ops team guarding the terminal and or repairing the terminal if lost.

Anything that promotes deliberate coordinated action over mindless kill spam attacking is top on my list for game play improvements. Nice Idea.

Sounds good but then the Liberaters main usage would be defeated. Also I think that if the guys that use the Pheonix want to just shoot a stationary object for 4 hours than by goly, go ahead.

Precision? No. A semi competent pilot and bombadier? Yes.

Compromise. Make it a pretty cheap outfit point purchase when (if, from what it sounds like now) OBO comes out.

Yep, this sounds a good idea; I may be a constant Pheonix user, but I can still see the logic in denying this particularly stupid but effective strategy .
