Ah, connection woes...

I'm using a 2wire Homeportal 1000SW and SBC Yahoo! DSL, and in my internet monitor it says I have a downstream speed of 128kbps. However, when I download something, the data transfer rate is only around 50 kbps! What's wrong with it, or is this just normal?

EDIT: it is now arond 36 kbps

actually, it varies based on site, but it never goes above 60kbps. What should I do to speed it up?

hmm, maybe. It keeps telling me to put a filter on my phone lines, like a DSL filter to filter out stray data, it says. I have one on all my phone lines except my alarm line. Is that what is bringing down my speed?

Yes, generally they will give you a low data rate, if you call and request it or bitch at them you can get it upped. Generally you might have to pay more for more speed, but if you are paying 29.95 a month right now, just argue you can get 2.0 Mbps down and 384 Kbps up if you went with Cable for only 44 bucks a month, that should get them to up your speed a bit.

Call em up and complain, it works every time. Threaten to switch to cable, they won't like that.

And if they don't help switch to cable its faster.
They uped the cable speed here to 3Mbps DL i don't know upload though
