This is an idea that I have been boiling in my mind for several weeks. To go along with it are a series of pictures.
Scythe Ancient Technology MAX. The build of the MAX is based off the AT vehicle philosophy that you are actually "Digitized" into the object and become part of it.

This MAX is unique in that it would effectively be a "Melee" MAX. The below points detail it.

1.)Weaponry: (Note, please Read "Blink")The Scythe is outfitted with a double-blade. Firing once triggers a "double attack" (each hit is evaluated separately) I won't go into the damage specifics, but the ammo drain is as follows:

1.5.) Ammo Drain: Toggling the firing options switches the claws from on/off. When off, the MAX cannot attack. When on, the claws drain "Charges" every second from the default ammo box of the MAX. Activating the claws creates a 3 second down time.
2.)Armor: 650 default.
3.)Movement: To accomodate the fact that it is a Melee unit, it will be able to handle like a Rexo.

4.) Special ability: Blink- This is the clincher for the Scythe. It operates with a MAX capacitor (takes 2-5 seconds to charge). When used, the MAX will instantaniously "Blink" (teleport) up to 15m in the direction (on the x axis) that it is facing. This creates a "Lunge" effect so that the Scythe can close distance on Infantry, making the blades actually effective.

Sounds cool, looks cool...

Problems:

1) AT, limited availabilty

2) Melee only MAX...bringing a knife to a gun fight is never a good idea. Give it *some* sort of ranged weaponry, even if only Beamer strength. Might not be a problem in the caverns where it will be most common.

3) Better special ability would be a cloak, but with a 3 second cool down before they could attack. Be freakin' cool as hell to see one of these things uncloak and rip some guy apart and then re-cloak.

4) Uni-MAX is already an insane value. Maybe give it the cloak and bundle this with Infiltrator as it will be fairly uncommon?

A very *very* cool idea...just don't know how well it'd work on the battlefields.

It looks nice but I feel that the game needs to get away from the technology and future stuff.

I tend to stay with the military look of this game which i love.

I do like the idea though and it has to have some kind of ranged weapon.

Looks like a praying mantis to me, way to skinny, no ranged weapon, nothing big or MAX bout it...

Not keen on it.

Edit: it also looks kinda ripped off from Natural Selections Fade.

That is the best idea ever im suprised the devs didnt think of it, ITS AWSOME and the blink ability is cool but i think you should be able to control the "blink" ability's range.

Actually it looks less like a fade and more like a Dredge from Titan AE or an Elite from Halo.

And if you read the thread on the OF it doesn't need a ranged attack... that is what the blink is for. It's allready as armored as a MAX while as Fast as Rexo, add to that a Blink/Lunge ability that instantly brings it to a Target w/i 15m the idea is sound. And rememeber it is alien Tech. Of course it would work better in the Cavern's that's where the Ancient Vanu had their Cities. THAT's what the cavern's ARE! The Techy look is because it wasn't designed by humans. This, if you ask me, would be a good adition cause it would actually lend some value to CC, as for the cloaking.... eh

Yea, not a fan of this.

Would be cool for the first week maybe. Then people would get tired of having this fucking MAX blinking everywhere. So they would extend the blink timer to 10-15 seconds.

Then you would get this overwhelming realization of how useless a melee max is in a world dominated by (for lack of a better term) guns. I mean 2 deci's to kill max, and I doubt it would take only two hits for that max to kill me in a rexo or else there would be a cry for "NERF!!!!" not heard since the old super uber lasher.

So hear I am, this little INF guy in a rexo runnin around with a Deci going toe to toe with this new MAX. Who can now only use his blink ability every 10-15 seconds. Who has to hit me more than twice to kill me. And can only move as fast as I can, oh and if I wanted I could use surge. Ah yea, did I mention I won't be standing still? Not to mention with the FPS allot of people get and the horrid lag, hell I'd be suprised if this guys hit me once before I slammed him with two decis.

Speaking of lag, don't we have something like "blink" in the game. Is it not referred to as "FUCKIN TELEPORTING LAGGY FUXIN HAXOR!! OMFG WTF!!216512!@#$@#$", at least when I see it over /b that's the way it looks. So now we want to add this to the game on purpose?

Yea, I think I'll pass on this one. But the look of the thin is kinda cool.

Seems reasonable. One question though...where is the infantry controlling it if it's comprised of unconnected parts?

Not sure how effective it would be with Decis as common as they are, but it'd be an interesting thing to try.

Make the hitbox tiiiiiiny for it.

Decibait, in order from largest to smallest.


1: TR - OMG I CAN STAND STI- Damn *clicks respawn button*
2: NC - THE MAX IS FSCKING HUGE!
3: VS - Theyre skinny, but still able to hit.
4: AT(if implemented) It should be 1337 tiny so it can move around deci shots. Its not like you can go outside with the thing.

Elf, where is your body when you drive a router for that matter? As far as i can tell that kinda stuff doesn't matter when it comes to AT equipment. Very nice idea overall, although i would make them as fast as a non-surging agile, can't have everyone just backpeddeling away.

its a good idea but it resembles the fade in Natural Selection
with the whole slash thing and the whole blink bit

I'm with Silverlord on this one. It's a neat idea, but it may not mesh well with the other stuff we already have. The concept is soild, but just for another game. It reminds me of and Invid Inorganic (showing my age, I know )
