What planetside needs is a true day and night cycle.
That would change play styles totally. Also compulsory weather but I have mentioned this before. Night scope cert anyone? Searchlight for CEs? Fixed searchights on Towers/Bases? Headlights? Landing lights? Tracer Bullets? Flares? Tripwire Thunderflashes? Night bombing raids with bomber having thermal imaging? Pretty sunrises/sunsets? Thunder & Lightning? Thoughts anyone. I would love this to happen. Last edited by Real Mulambo; 2004-04-28 at 11:19 AM. |

Hell yeah, man. These are all good ideas. And as for a vid card...well...get more money and buy the new 256 cards, lol. If they make day/night, however, it can't be a switchable option. And it shouldn't be an issue. I've been looking all around online and such, and you can find a "decent" computer (2.8 Ghz proc, 512 RAM, 128-bit card) for under $700. I know its not great, but you can always upgrade to 1 gig of RAM as soon as you get $150, and you can play in the meanwhile. I think they should use day/night cycles!

How can just turning the sky black, and shorting viewing distance be taxing on your computer?

Either ATD 5 or ATD 6 has SmokeJumper commenting on the fact that until they could make night fun for everyone then they won't implement it. The reason that it wouldn't be fun for everyone because if you can't see anyone, you can't shoot them and can't have fun.
It's something everyone wants but the devs don't have the means to implement it yet. |

If you wanted true night it would tax systems a lot more since you'd need to step dynamic lighting up several notches.
Dunno how taxing thermal/night vision would be, but my laptop doesn't like me playing Splinter Cell with Night/Thermal vision, thermal vision especially. Possibly because of the dymanic lighting |

Why do you need to put dynamic lighting? And we don't need any new thermal or night vision. We already got Darklight, that can function perfectly in low light visibility...

The solution for Madatory Weather is simple, if the com has waether set to off, his viewing distance is automaticaly turned down to that of a pearson that has it on, when that weather comes
Yeha Dhark is right about the day/night, is would only be taxing if you put dynamic lighting in, and if it was it could only be put in for client side, becasue keeping trak of everyons lights would be near impossible, we don't need dynamic lighting We alread have slight day night cycles but they are hardly noticed (they acctualy do effect visibility too) Also the amount of Videe memory is NOT what matters what buying a video card, its the GPU that the memory is hooked too
