I know I'm geting way, way ahead of myself, but I think we have enough information to theorize and speculate.
Would it be posible to make Planetside 2? I know that the war is supposedly "unending" and pretty much impossible to win due to sanctuarys and Marixing technologys. However, the Tribes' storyline was along a similar thread. They rationalized the fall of one of the Tribes by an unforseen enemy. While this specific thought might offend some players because of the nature of MMOGs(The NC would be pissed if the new story included them geting an ass-whooping), what if the new storyline included an uneasy peace among the empires after years of unwinable war? The devs might reopen the wormhole and allow the empires to return to Terra, and the Terran empire attempt to regain control of auraxis. However, both sides have develpoped new and different technologies for war because of the kinds of battle's they are used to fighting. I'm a real story-line/history buff, so I just like to think about things like this. Would like to contribute my own efforts to the storyline if they take community advice in a new game. What do you guys think?

An idea of mine-" After 10 years of vicious fighting, the 3 warring factions have realized that they can not get an advantage over each other. They agree to a peace talk, and delegates are sent. Many months are spent planning a form of government, meanwhile, extremists and rebels continue the fight. Finally, an uneasy peace is formed, and the Auraxis Union is formed.
3 years later... Suddenly, the Union loses contact from a large space-faring ship full of colonists being sent to a nearby planet. Further investigation shows that the wormhole has indeed been re-opened. Soon, large Terran Republic armadas come through. The Emperor of the Union takes off and greets the Republic, his ship and escort are vaporized quickly. The planet dissolves into chaos. Suddenly, alien warships warp into the Auraxis system as well. The former Vanu troops seem to have known of this event, the Vanu have returned, and they are not happy. In conclusion, you could play as Terran Republic, "New" Vanu (not aliens though) or the Auraxis Union. The Union would be a mix of all 3, because they would have Vanu tech also. Probably will never happen, but oh well. Hope ya liked me story. |

What if the wormhole were to reopen and the factions on auraxis discover that the real Vanu who mysteriously left their own planet have attacked the TR. So there's been a war going on back at home also.

Planetside on the PS2...as in Playstation 2? I think not....
PS2 probably wouldn't be able to handle something like planetside. Sure the PS2 can run everquest...but that's because things are "qued" and that resolves most/if not all of the lag issues. Real time FPS games generate significantly more lag and with games like PS require decent and up to date computer systems. PS2 isn't exactly up to date anymore...nor was it really a godlike console when it came out. Perhaps if the network code is superb you might see if on PS2...but with big limitations put in. The developers have stated that this game is being developed for the PC only. So a port to the console is not only unlikely, it would take a good amount of time(1-2 years) before you saw it on the PS2. Who here would rather play Planetside on the xbox/ps2 rather than on the computer??? Besides, who says a company that makes computer games HAS to port it to a console before they can make a sequel??? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I don't want to think of a planetside two. Thinking and pondering about a sequel to a game that isn't even released yet. Might as well be thinking about Planetside 3. Not that I'm saying you shouldn't think about it. I guess it's just me; I don't like to really think to much about games that are years away-I try to focus on something else until they are within a year or less of release. I sure as hope "planetside for PS2" as FuLLxCLip said meant planetside for playstation two otherwise this whole thing is completely irrelevant. |
