go for the AMD 3800+ or go for dual opteron 248s? would there be a big enough improvement for the 600-and-something price diffrence?

then what about the opteron 148 and a mobo that supports boh the opteron 100 series and the 200 series and allows for dual proc, plus it will be around a $250 save if i get the opteron 148 instead of the 3800+, and they perform about the same.

I finde it a bit hard to belive that a good dual opteron board + (chip * 2) would be less expensive than a 3800+.

It may be a good option but you need to be carfull to get a Mobo that supports AGP and stuff, a workstation board not a server one.

no my second option has the mobo capable of having a dual opteron 200 series but also supports the opteron 100 series and the 64 FX series. I would be getting an opteron 148. The good thing about the opteron 148 is that it performs pretty much the same as the 3800+ but is it is exaclty $290 less (excluding shipping and handling and tax).
