I am no longer an apple fan. I sent my iBook in for repairs about a week ago and I got it back today. Apparently the mother board went out on it. It was under waranty, so that was free. I figured I was lucky. The problem had nothing to do with the hard drive, so all my data should still be there.
When I booted it up I was supprised to have to give the computer all my information and set it up just like I did when I first bought it. I was even more supprised to find it boot up to a blank standard desktop with out any of my programs or files. I called customer support and they explained to me that they wiped my hard drive simply so they could get a clean install of the operating system. I already had the operating system installed, and I am pretty sure replacing the mother bored with an exact replica is no reason to have to reinstall it. They just wanted to upgrade me to the latest version. (A free downloadable upgrade that I could of easly done myself with out loosing my data.) Fortunatly I have a recent full back up. The only problem is I have never tested it before. This is the first time I have had to use it. I pray to god it works. Fuck apple Last edited by Jaged; 2004-06-23 at 12:52 AM. |

One time, my Gateway laptop fell off my lap and the back hit the floor, jamming the power plugger in thingy into the adaptor in the back. I couldnt get any AC power any more, the plug didn't fit / connect at all. So, I call up CompUSA...
"Hey, whats the price on fixing a power adaptor thingy?" "About 200 dollers." "200 DOLLERS?!?" "Plus installation" "WTF??" "Yeah, you need a new mobo" ....needless to say, after fits of laughter I got it fixed for 25 at a privately owned shop. Point being, some people ARE idiots. |

What maddox thinks of compusa http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=compusa_sucks
Also alienware is BY FUCKING FAR the shittiest customer service and computers ever. They were good 4 years ago, but now? All their shit like "Alien Adenaline" you can get for free on the internet, and there computers a way to expensive. And the computers break alot, there pretty bad. Read about alienware at somethingawful.com (read the forums.) Oh yea Lowtax, the owner of somethingawful sent his alienware in for repairs and told them SPECIFICALLY not to wipe the HD and put a note in there too. He got it back all wiped. It had forum info and everything on it, he was PISSED. I think he said in a article "I had to turn winamp on to full volume to block out the pure white noise coming out of the rear of this piece of shit, but oh yea I forgot. Whenever I try to start winamp the system has a fatal error. By far alienware is the WORST PLACE TO BUY A COMPUTER. Even the cs kiddies are figuring out that a riced out case wont speed up your comp. "OMG IT IS LIKE ALIEN TECHNOLOGY!!!" |

Err maybe i shouldn't step into this thread LOL!
But I'll say one thing here. Always been an Apple fan for years, but the Customer Service..... Well, they are by far, the worst chuffas the world has introduced. And my Brother admits it, since he is an Apple Technician.
