Canada nearly has a Columbine.

I saw this on Moorewatch.com. This is a story that gives me faith humanity. Faith that maybe we aren't so screwed after all.

Friendly dog prevents killing spree
Thu 24 June, 2004 21:18

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian man, driving a car packed with weapons and ammunition, was intent on killing as many people as possible in a Toronto neighbourhood but gave up the plan at the last minute when he encountered a friendly dog, police say.

The middle-aged man, who police said was mentally disturbed, had planned to carry out the shooting spree on Wednesday to ensure he would be put in jail permanently, Toronto police said on Thursday.

He had set himself up in an east-end park to load his weapons and then planned to drive around shooting. He later told police that a dog then approached and started playing with him.

The encounter melted the man's heart, and he then went in search of police to give himself up, police said.

"He happens to be a pet lover, and decided that since there was such a nice dog in the area, that people were too nice and he wasn't going to carry out his plan," Detective Nick Ashley told reporters.

Police found 6,000 rounds of ammunition, two rifles, a shotgun, a semi-automatic pistol, a revolver and an air rifle in the man's car, along with a machete and a hunting knife. The car also contained a throwing knife, a camouflage mask and netting.

He had recently arrived in Toronto from New Brunswick.

James Paul Stanson, 43, has been charged with a variety of weapons-related offences and appeared in court for a bail hearing on Thursday.

It gives you faith that we aren't so screwed after all, because a dog had to prevent a man from tearing up a city? Whatever floats your boat

PS: Didn't someone just post this? Or maybe I saw it somewhere else..

Good timing indeed.

And I said it gave me some hope for humanity because the guy didn't anally rape the dog and proceed to kill the neighborhood. If he did that, I'd start stockpiling weapons for our apocalypse.

Glad it didn't happen. Last time something like that happened(in the 70s in Montreal) it caused a yearly rememberance thing where people randomly cry about people they didn't know.

Kinda a happy ending.

Right place at the right time. I think the only thing that could have made me more happy about how that ended is if after several minutes of heartwarming playing, the dog fatally mauled him

If that had happened, there would of been no one to tell the story. The headline would of been. "Man fataly mauled by dog" We probably would of never known his intentions.

well, they would have found a whole bunch of guns in his truck, so the headline would have been "Man killed by dog; He had a fuckload of guns in his truck"
