CPU over heating

my CPU is getting really really hot. last i checked whick was 1 min ago it was at 50 celsius/ 120 fahreinheit. it wuold have gone higher but i turned my comp off. i just want to know what might be causing this. i have a fan on the CPU, a fan on the side , and two fans in the back.

what kind of processor do you have? you also might want tolook into a new fan and heatsink for you processor.

AMD athlon 2600. seems everything is fine now because my comp is not turning off. im thinking of getting a new fan and heatsink also.

definetely get a new fan/heatsink. Keep in mind that AMDs run reasonably hot, around 47�C(average for mine)(AMD Athalon XP 3000+ "Barton" 2.1GHz 400FSB 512k Cache).

ThermalRight SP97. Best Heatsink around.

Get an 80mm fan pushing around 40-50CFM's and you'll be sitting well with a reasonable amount of noise, but not as killing as the Tornado.

better idea get some headting duct and connect it up to your fans one of the exaust ones and the headsink fan and it cool ur CPU loooots i use it when i overclock! (u havnt been over clocking have you??)

50 celsius is pushing it and that my be part of your problem, The duck may be a good idea, it also heeps the CPU heat away from the rest of the Comp keeping other things cooler as welll(also the cheapest option)

I think the Thermaltake you have there is supposed to cool well and be quite quiet. i've nver seen a review on the artic cooler.

The thermaltek is the one i have. when it is on 2200 rpm my cpue is about 49, but at 5500 rpm that sucker cools down to 40 in about 15 minutes. kinda loud on 5500 though.

50c is not hot for an Athlon, in fact, that's a pretty good temperature. Athlons can usually go to about 65-70c before any problems occur, so I think your ok to be honest.

A duct is a good idea yes, but you have to have sufficient cooling for the rest of your computer as well, as hard drives, cd rom drives, graphics cards and PSUs all create heat.

Do you have any other cooling in your case?

I was gonna say that frag, but there are some chips the can't handle it, the way they are made sometimes chips can have oddities like this

If you have an AMD your going to need to pay extra money (equivalent to what you saved over Intel) on cooling.

Only time your going to need cooling on an Intel is when you overclock it to levels AMD can't even dream of.
