First of all no one really needs a smarta$$ telling that this is the wrong place to post a question thread.
But i do have some questions i can't find answers for so if their are any helpful planetside owners out there i'd appeciate the help. First what is the biggest battle you have seen in numbers. Are there really chances to use good stratigics when trying to overrun enemy structures. Honestly how large are the continets or how long would it take to drive say buggy accross your average continet. How do the flight controls work keyboard, joystick, etc... And finally Hero is gonna be a kicka$$ movie Thanks for help this will probly decide weather or not i get this game with it's 12.99 amonth fee. |

Re: Biggest battle.
Well, it is the largest FPS on the market by a LONG shot (nearest was what, 60?) this has around 400 people on a cont at any given time. I saw at least that last night, fighting over ONE base. SO you can tell, the fights are mucho grand.

Playing PS on a dell..... good luck. All I have to say is that you definatly need a new rig to play. Planetside needs 1.8 ghz Processor with 512 ram and 128mb vid card Mininum. That will play the game slowly and fighting in those huge battles for you would be a slide show. Running the game smoothly no matter what is on your screen requires 2.6 and up with 1gb ram and a nice shiny 256mb Video card (radeon 9800. Nvidia 5600)

I use a Dell, 1gig of RAM, Radion 9800pro, Cable, and I get around 70-90 outside and 50-60 inside. Up untill about a month ago I only had 512 and I got around 55-70 outside and 40-50 inside, but I would hit a spike or 2 when fighting inside. Dells are not bad computers just build them the right way and you'll be fine. Buy what you can with what you got and then you can always upgrade later.

Alienware sucks balls. Build your own comp and save hundreds. I was thinkin of gettin an Alienware for $3200, but ended up building the SAME system for $1600. Yep thats right, exactly HALF. My current system pwns.
PlanetSide is an asskickin game, but its pretty demanding on your computer. As for the questions: Largest battle: A couple hundred players at least. Keep in mind that some of these players are in aircraft, some in tanks, some in buggies, or MAX suits etc. It really is quite cool to see. Strategy: Hell yeah. You can spend all day zerging through the front door and getting mowed down, or you can set up an AMS and a router near the base, have an infiltrator place a teleport pad inside the base, and start beaming your troops inside. Or place the AMS near the back door, send a MAX crash team inside to break up the entrenched enemies, then flood them with troops from the AMS. Tons of things you can do. Play smart (and with a smart squad/outfit) and you can do really well. How big are the continents: Damn, well, you could probably spend the better part of an hour walking across a continent. Most battles you don't have to walk very far as there is almost always a base, tower, or AMS handy to spawn at wherever there is a fight. Having a vehicle cert is always a good idea however, so if for any reason the battle IS a ways off, you can be there within a few minutes of spawning. A buggy can make it across a continent in maybe 15-30 minutes, depending on the terrain. These continents are certainly bigger than any other FPS maps, thats for sure. Flight Controls: I'm a pilot in PS (member of the Black Hawks outfit), and I have to say, I enjoy flying well enough without using a joystick. All aircraft in PlanetSide are fairly easy to control. They are all VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) craft, so you can lift em off and set em down just about anywhere (tho building roofs are off-limits). You can use the normal WASD keys to fly them just like you would to control a character on the ground, except that you also use the E and C keys to control your altitude. Aircraft in PlanetSide is nowhere near the level of control difficulty like it is in games like Battlefield 1942. There is joystick support however (granted, its not the BEST joystick support) in case you want to go with that as well. Personally, I think this game is more than worth the $12.99 a month. Before I got into PlanetSide, I was buying a couple $50 games a month. You know how it goes, beat one game, buy another. PlanetSide has managed to hold my attention for over a year now, and I've only bought a few other games along the way (Homeworld 2, EVE, SWG and a couple others). For new content every several weeks, I'm more than happy. I've got new 4 new islands (mini-continents) to play on with the last patch, and the next one will allow us to aquire and pilot Mechs (aka BFRs). |
