New System by Dell

So Dell was having a 25% off sale until wedensday so me and my dad decided to look how much it would cost to get the system we wanted. We ended up getting a Dimension 8400 running at 3.4 ghrz p4, w/ 800 FSB, 1 gig of DDR ram, and a x800 SE PCIx card. I would just like to know if that system to going to run planetside as smooth as I hope it does, i want to play with all the graphics up and whilst still being able to play effectively.

So guys, whats the verdict? Is this new system going to run quite well? I have heard that the x800 SE is a little slower than the x800 but it still runs faster than the 9800 xt, i heard that, if it's true...i have no idea.

We got two of them and it was under 3k. We got no speakers with the package and 17" moniters we still have. We also had to downgrade to 80 gig HD's.

shit you got two GOOD dells(i can't belive i said it) for under 3k WTF?

that machine BYOS, would be 2.5 atleast

Oh yeah SE stands for Shitty edition to most people you talk to. But the x800 SE still should be better than a 9800 in any form

*Later, in the asylum*

Note to self: Always make sure there's a motherboard and case included in the 'great deal'.

also thats a socket 775 board with all the new fixins like PCI-Ex so it has quite decent upgrade opportunities

The problem being that now you must rely on and pay Dell for any future upgrades

With dells 2xxx series = crap, 4xxx series = ok, 8xxx series = pretty good.

I still think you could have come out well ahead building yourself but nothing wrong at all with what you got.

PS is not the best judge of PC power. No matter what you got, zergs can still crush a system when its got everything turned up, especially AA/AF at high res. So you still need to find a good medium between speed and looks.
