I am very interested in PlanetSide but I have a question concerning playing it over a long period of time. I am wondering what kind of veteran value does PlanetSide have in the long run? That is, if every server has its own character statistics, what kind of statistics are global that can be shown off no matter where I go or what I do in the game?
I want to feel like I've gained something after playing this game for 6+ months.. something that doesn't go away or reset every 24 hours like some things in other games. Hopefully you guys know what I mean.. it's like having a level 99999+ character on Everquest meeting a level 1 person for the first time.

Command is the main way to gain global/continental fame. You can only become renowned by your real skill, not by how many certs you have, which makes PS a great game for people like to ALERT:METAPHOR, BS in a 7v1c stomp.
edit- as for statistics, this was discussed in a recent dev chat. They will have lots, the stats do reset every 24 hours though the game does not.

I think it will be fun competing with real people. I will also enjoy trying to bring glory to my empire.
I think the game will really begin when you no longer care about exp.

I'm sure with all the statistics they say they're going to track that someone will end up being the top-ranked player. That kind of reputation would certainly give someone quite bit of fame.
