[Warhammer 40k] My very first models.

Well, after a long painting binge, I finally finished painting 3 of my warhammer 40k imperial guard models. I was quite pleased with how they turned out. There are the first models I have ever painted.

Note: The sand on the base of the commissar (middle guy with the hat) is 50 million years old.

For a first timer that's DAMN fine. WTG. And yeah, that's an old Commissar model, but you made him look great. WTG.

What's your planned army list?

Good show, nice looking models, especially for a newbie (I've seen some AWFUL models done by beginners). Proof that even without advanced brush techniques you can get models to look good anyway. Once you've got a few squads painted that well, any little errors you may have made won't really be obvious anyway, and together, they'll look great.

I've known some people who played WH40k, but they spent most of their time painting then actually playing

That's where most of the fun is. It's calming. Plus, when you're done you get to marvel at what you've done. It's a good feeling.

If I ever can be bothered, I'll get mine from the roof and show you mine.
Quite a lot of Ultramarines (boring, I know), and a few Elves from the original Warhammer.

Just saw Incompetent's post: I have Tau, too. Hammerhead for teh win.

Very nice derf, I'm slowly putting together a Guard army and a Tau army. I haven't played yet (me and a few friends were going to put together armies, everyone else jumped ship, real fucking suprise there) but I just like putting them together and painting them, so I just kept building them anyway. I agree that it's a nice feeling to have actually created something you can be proud of, although, admittedly, I am building them with an eye towards eventually playing at one of the local places.

I plan on doing that also, right now, I dont even have a rulebook. My friend who played chaos started a Tau army about the time I started my Cadian army.

Also, my end-all goal for my imperial guard army is to have a few tanks, lots of kasrkin squads (stormtroopers). And possibly one of the super-heavy tanks from forgeworld. Maybe even a titan if I can afford one

Those aren't Cadian colors you're using, unless you were planning to use an original color scheme on Cadian models.

Also, my avatar guy is a Cadian trooper. Cadians rock. My favorite army.

Bah, no point in painting them standard colors, much more fun to mix and match and come up with your own color schemes.

Can't do too many stormtroopers, Derfud. The requirement for an IG army is 1 HQ (command squad), and 2 troops.

Well for one thing, I can field 3 kasrkin squads as troop choices according to the Eye of terror codex, not to mention the fact that I would be able to do it anyways with the grenadiers special rule used for the cadians.

Also, that is the exact Cadian painting scheme, minus the red camo jaggies (Which I personally dont like). So I decided not to add them. But more than not, they are the cadian colour schemes.

Unless you like the Cadian scheme a lot and want to make an actual Cadian army complete with accurate color scheme.
