half life 2 worked for...oh 5 hours, now it wont get past the "loading" screen before the main menu without crashing to desktop

I blame steam, and so do the hundreds of others with this same problem, valve has not been forthcoming with ANY solution, or ANY helpful response to the problem that is causing HUNDREDS of customers to be unable to use a product that they have purchased.

Thanks so much, and if you tell me to "get a better computer" I'm hunting you down and eating your spleen.
