ok, so i have everything except for a good precessor. So here's my Q, can i overclock the beast in order to get over the gigger mark, or do i need to shell out 600+ dollars to play this beast of a game?

pretty much nothing. But seriously, i'll have about $200 by the time the game comes out. And i have to buy the game and stuff. I have 512 of ram, i have a radeon with 64 megs of ram, i have a good sound card, and i have a 800 meger CPU or something around that. It should be able to over clock to over a gigahertz, and i have all of the rest of the stuff i need. I can run BF fine, i don't see how this would be much harder.

I wouldn't compare BF1942 to Planetside. BF1942 graphically is nothing compared to Planetside. More specifically the maps. These maps are enormous. They aren't just enormous, they are extremely detailed. When you throw in a hundred or so people on your screen in a large battle your not going to be happy with how a 64mb graphics card will hold up when partnered with a slow processor like that.
As for overclocking your 800 mhz... You really should just go with a new processor. Are you running an Intel or AMD? what's your motherboard model btw? We need to have more detailed specs for your computer. Your motheboard needs to be able to handle a faster processor before you can upgrade it. If it can't you would need to dish out more money for that. If you do decide to overclock are you going to have proper cooling? What's your case like? model would help even more. You don't want to butcher the graphics in planetside just to play the game. If you can't afford it but really want play the game that's one thing but if you can there is no reason to hesitate. Don't think of upgrading your system just for this game but think of it as upgrading for the future of gaming It doesn't cost $600 for a 2.8 ghz btw. That's closer to the price of the P4 3.06ghz with HT. 2.8 is more like $400.

Over in our dev-stalker forumn. The thread is entitled "Yo! Worried bout your rig Dawg? G-Money SJ gots your Back, keeps it real." Seems appropriate. Just a bit. (cliff notes: The requirements are coming down, but no official numbers yet) |
