Choppy FPS

Current specs

p4 prescott core 3.0
ati 9800 pro 128 mb
1 gig of 3200 ram
Comcast cable, just took a speed test

"2005-03-08 13:30:57 EST: 4076 / 375
Your download speed : 4174176 bps, or 4076 kbps.
A 509.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 384948 bps, or 375 kbps.
"

At best of times my FPS is ~120, but it drops REALLY quick when i get into medium-large fighting, and goes into the yellow or low green. If its a zerg fight it goes red.

Thoughts? Should this be expected? Or is there something i can tweak?

All my settings are on medium(still dont want the game to look like crap).

hmmm.... try going into your PS directory, look for 3dperf.ini or 3dengine.ini i forget which one it is, but it will have a list of options, the first 3 options should be true, switch them to false. dont know if this is that descriptive, havent tweaked the settings since i got PS.

i've found that doesn't work so well.

TBH your running it about were it should be, my systems is very comparable + 6800gt and thats only a little lower than what i got, what res are you running at, DX version are you using, and do you have any AA/AF on?

Those 3 things were already turned to false.

I just upgraded to newest version of DX after you mentioned it.

I run the game at 1024x768.

Both AA and AF are set to "let program decide" in my catalyst controller.

Rbstr; it depends what your used to, if your used to 100+ fps, yea, it wont make a difference, but if your runing arround 10-20 fps, it makes a world of difference

I know what Bad FPS is, i use to play on a Radeon 7000, 256 of ram, and a 1.3 pentium 4. And then a 2.4cellron, with 512 ram(later a gig) and a Fx5600.

I did everything and anything to make it better.

Most improvment noted is just placebo effect. Before your like "Man look at how low it gets" after you like "Wow look how much better i'm doing" but your just noticing it differently
