I've known about PlanetSide for a long time now, and have considered playing; the recurring fee turned me off, though.
Now, I've reconsidered my decision, and went to look for some trials-I remembered a 7-day trial, and a 30-day trial for Windows XP users. Alas, they have sinced passed. I found info on the Cannon Fodder program while lurking around on the official forums, but it wouldn't come into effect until a long time in the future. So, I guess I'll have to beg for buddy keys... ...until I found out about the whole Buddy Key Exchange thing here. Needless to say, I've registered, punched in the key, and am currently downloading the game to find out if I'll like it and if it'll run on this old hunk of junk(AXP 1800+, 512 MB DDR-266, 9600 XT). Hopefully, if I really do find the game fun, I'll try to convince my friends to tag along too. SOE might even get some money from me. Judging from my download timer, I'll be on the battlefield around 37 minutes from now. Then, I'll try to complete the apparently broken training and join an outfit...(speaking of outfits, what is the preferred voice chat program? I have TeamSpeak because there's an official Allegiance TS server and that it has an overlay to show who's talking.) Props to those behind Buddy Key Exchange! Now, I just have to wait... |

Yay! more players make planetside fun! So, what empire/server are you playing on? Its good to see the buddy keys being used now. If you have any performance issues, I can recomend buyin an other stick of ram, and possibly a new processor. Hell, even if you want, you could get a new video card, but if you get the card for this game, I suggest an nVidia card as there are new drivers and files and what not for planetside that make it run better on nVidia cards. Happy to have a new player

Glad you like the idea! We had talked about it in the past and decided not to do it at first because fodderside was coming. Then they said that it may not come out on the 14th so we figured we'd give it a go with the amount of people posting in the 10 day trial thread.
Gryphon is the coding mastar behind the Key Exchange - so far we have already hooked up over 10 people with trials! |

I just ran into a little problem...
You see, every time I try to run PlanetSide, it CTDs on me, with a VC++ Runtime Error or something like that. Very annoying, especially since that's even less of my precious free trial that I can get to use. I am running on a limited account, if that could cause problems. Is there any way to get this game to run short of getting admin rights so that I can indulge myself in some MMOFPS action? |

So you don't have admin rights to your system? That right there could be a cause. I've seen lots of apps that refuse to run without admin privs on the local machine. Short of that, you could try doing some windows updates to your system but I have never recieved that error. In checking the SOE KB it doesent appear anyone else has either

I got myself some admin rights, and sure enough, that solved the problem.
My character has the same name I have here, fighting for the NC on Emerald(since I live on the continental US East Coast). I'm currently trying to complete the training missions in order to get my BR up to help prepare for some real combat. Unfortunately, I now know what the PS community means by borked training missions; sometimes, I do just what the mission asks, only for it not to proceed. I cancel and try again, usually solving the problem. However, one instance just froze my PC, forcing me to reboot. Hopefully, I'll get past all of these difficulties and indulge myself in some sweet MMOFPS action. See you on the battlefield! |

I dont think they should fix the offline training, rather, they should be working on the ingame missions, and use those to make people familiar with the game. Also, I would like to see different, user made missions in, that would be fun. Even taking it a step further, if you wanted to join an outfit, you would need to complete a "quest" be it 5 ant runs, 250 kills and 20 support points, or just n of x, then a of x, then d of x, would make it neat for getting new, quality memebers.
