Heres the Lowdown.
When using Dial up (Keep in mind this is almost NEVER 56k, more like 40-47k), you have to be absolutely sure that there is NOTHING else using bandwith but planetside. No teamspeak, no Instant Messanger, nothing. Even then, good luck in a Red Alert (big fight) anywhere. You can upgrade to what I have: ISDN. Peaks at 126k. Planetside is very playable, as long as nobody else is using the line, and you arent downloading stuff (pr0n) while playing. Currently, my ISDN router is pooped, and has cut it's bandwith in half. (About 62k). And the game is still frustratingly playable. I was playing in a red alert, not 1 second behind the whole time, with only 60k. Keep in mind, however, this is not Dial up, and there is still more bandwith. Its all about bandwith, and how much information can be transmitted from the server to your computer, and back, and vice versa. The more stuff going on, the more bandwith you need. Overall, Dial-up fails at planetside. I'd consider doing what I did (after I bitched nonstop to the cable and DSL providers)... 1) Try upgrading to ISDN (Which I can guarantee is provided to your area. Where I live, its verizon stuff.) 2) See if you can upgrade to IDSL. This is about 256k, and is provided to my area, but the bastards wont come in for 5 months. The problem with these things? They are fucking expensive. Were talking 100 bucks a month, not to mention the 500 bucks it cost for installation. So my suggestion... MOVE. Thats what were doing. |

Like I said I ran it for a while, and it's there are playable moments, but stay out of the air, and any fights with more than 10 people a side. You drop packets like crazy and sometimes you can be minutes behind the rest of the world.

But I can start practice offline to get the feel some weapons without problems, right? Also, is there any better way to launch the game besides that LaunchPad thing? According to that thing, it would take 271 hours, 23 mintues, and 06 seconds to start the game. I'm pretty sure that's like 12 days of constant Internet access in order to start up the game.....

There is no other way to access it - you can download it from fileplanet but if you are on a modem it will take just as long.
Pretty much what is happening is it is downloading the entire game from the internet which is 1GB+ it will take quite a while to download that on 56k. |

Yeah I played with 56k for 2 years which is why my main character is only BR 18. Then my computer crashed. Its not worth it.
My try is getting Satilite internet or wireless (which i use). Satilite is good if your out in the open but sucks with the weather. Wireless is a bit faster but same problems. Believe me, don't play without it. it is impossible to play at 56k and impossible to kill.
