something which could ruin the gaming industry

i remember when it took a long time for games to advance alot.. now they are advancing so much that you have to almost buy a new computer every time a game comes out.. i mean come on.. this game needs a 1GHZ 512 MB and a really really good video card... i dont know about you guys, but i certaintly dont want to buy a new video card every time a new game comes out.. PS THIS GAME IS GONNA RULE

Here's the thing. Everything is demand driven in the gaming industry, we always want more power, graphics, and options. Currently the best comp out the is a 3.06 p4. This game's req's are a third of that. As long as it follows the curve by about a third, I think that's fair. I do wish they would make BB the minimum req tho.

Every game says that they suppot dlup, but they really dont. You think anyone plays BF with a 56k? No. I see them dropping out pretty quick.

I don't think a game that requires something that was top of the line three years ago is too bad. Games have always been like that, they run on old machines they just don't run pretty. Eventually games will hit a plateau where everything looks photo-realistic and then upgrading won't be a problem unless you're a crazy mathemetician. However far off that is in the future is anyone's guess though.

Well, i bought my computer about a year ago. It wasnt top of the line, but i knew what i wanted it for so i bought to match that. I bought a geforce3ti500 just after the geforce4 came out, i bought 2 512 pc2100 ddr, and a 1900+. There isnt a game out since then that this wont run, and so far the only game i turn down anything is Serious Sam 2, dont know why, but it eats up graphics and ram like nothing. Then only game in there near future that im worried about is Doom III, even though my computer still ran the leak fairly well.

My point is, know what you want to get out of the computer before you buy it. Buy just short of the top of the line, and you'll be set for maybe a year or two. If you buy individual parts that just meet the min req for a game, youll end up with a fairly expensive money stealing paper weight. Upgrade with the long term in mind, not the short term.

Also, im on BB, but alot of my friends arnt. I would hope 56K is supported and supported well, or else im gonna have people moving in with me

this has absolutely no chance to ruin the gaming industry.

developers would never make games that the majority of consumers couldn't buy, its called smart business.

I don't think it will ruin the industry, but I do think they should slow down. I think this because it will attract more people to PC gaming and once you play PC you don't go back. Just a slow down for a little while would be good for the industry (soft ware that is not hard ware). It won't ruin the industry though because PC games are so much better than most of the others that they will still maintain a following.

I disagree, a top of the line comp today costs a few grand less than a top of the line comp did 5 years ago.

I completely disagree. I think for once hardware is actually keeping ahead of software (as you notice the hardware is out that is needed to optimize the game, but the software isn't ). Also, as stated, computers are about 1/3 of the cost of what they use to be.

Yes you're right the hardware and the computers are cheaper than they used to be. Which is good for me who will be trying to upgrade RAM and video card this summer.

my comp is a 1.5ghz GeForce2 Ultra 384 ram and its quite outdated now, costed about 4500 dollars 2 years ago,now i can get better for 1000,yet still with computers getting better like this it does get QUITE expensive, they need to not make a new comp for a year or 2 then when they do make one make sure its gonna be the best for years to come and have a reasonable price tag ,this is jus my opinion and im sure the rest of you will say otherwise
