Author Topic: Dev question... but I doubt you'll answer.
TheDeceiver Station Member Registered: Dec 2002 posted 02-18-2003 04:37 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Back when the beta sign ups were goin on, I signed up, and sent in my Dxdiag file... I have 512 megs of RAM but the dxdiag said I had 510 ( who knows ) and I was just wondering if this effects me getting into beta or not since the minimum requirements were dropped Spork Answers SporkfirePS Station Admin Registered: Jan 2003 posted 02-18-2003 05:04 PM user search report post -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're pretty aware of info display discrepencies in DXDiag files and such. Being off by 2MB shouldn't affect your place in the beta. If you have any substantial discrepencies on your DXDiag, like 128MB when you know you have 512MB (I see this quite a bit in certain OS'es, even on machines that perform perfectly) and it causes you to be dropped from the beta, you might want to send an email to [email protected] to let us know the situation. This is mentioned in the new Beta FAQ, but I thought it was worth another bump.
If you have already signed up for beta, but your equipment has changed, you can update your submitted DXDIAG.TXT info by going to the following link: http://planetside.station.sony.com/b...d_dxdiag.jhtml Be sure to re-agree to the NDA following the DXDIAG submission to complete the process. This is great news for many of us who have updated our system since the time of sign-ups. Thanks to Blackbird for providing this link. Again, this only works if you have already submitted a beta app back in November. |

If we're upgrading to a new system say in the next week or so is that going to matter? My current one can handle PS but I'd like to play it on the new system if I got into the beta. They'll allow that won't they?

Seems alot of us have the same situation. Im gonna upgrade my dxdiag when my video card gets here. And why upgrade from a 1700mhz to a 2100mhz 400mhz doesnt make a huge diff at all. I get very similar scores on my 1600mhz machine as i do with my 2ghz machine in the other room in benchmarks. Sheesh, perfectionists

DxDiag was never meant to be a system analysis tool, so using it as such is to get these results. Use a real utility for system's collections, for gods sake.
And a little note on the post about the 510mb showing when there is 512mb.. This is not one of the descrepencies. 510mb is the true amount of physical memory that is allocatable by any running program on a 512mb system (well its more like 508mb) but regardless, its all paged and emulated. On the very newest versions of dxdiag, just because of people complained about the numbers 'not looking right' (morons), they now made it display total ram. For example, If I run dxdiag right now, it says I have my 2048mb of Ram. But if I multi-boot into win2000, which has directx7 or 8 on it, It says something like 2039mb (which is closer to the real number). I honestly can't beleive you people are relying off the dxdiag outputs for any kind of system evulation. That's like having a Java applet on your webpage to benchmark a user's memory bandwidth. |
