A new review from Gamenikki for PlanetSide: Core Combat.
The primary flaw is the limitations inherent in the Core Combat expansion. To put this in perspective, recent FREE expansions for the game Battlefield 1942 brought over 30 new vehicles to the game. The upcoming Unreal Tournament 2004 will not only double the amount of maps that shipped with UT 2K3, but also contains its own set of new vehicles for land and air. Unreal IIs XMP multiplayer bonus pack adds three official new vehicles to the game, new abilities for the weapons and several new maps, for FREE. Core Combat charges $30 to add three new vehicles, three new weapons and six new maps. On top of that, only one map is available at any given time, and only if the player is on a continent that is linked to that open cavern. And the vehicles are only available either in that one cavern, or at a base that is either linked to, or has, the Vehicle and Weapon modules. As is, Unreal II's XMP offers the same CTF module running PlanetSide offers, with the same hack and hold methodology, with near the same squad requirements as PlanetSide. Not to mention that players are free to build more vehicles and weapons for use in XMP. For FREE.
