Looking to build a new system.

Hi guys. Haven't been on here in a while. I was wondering if I could get some advice. I was wondering if the amd am2s were better for a low end system upgrade than the Pentium D systems. I think the am2s were cheaper but I didn't know about performance. I'm kind of going back and forth because I wanted to try an amd system but I'm wondering if the Pentium D system is that much better performance wise. Not to mention I know I can get a board for 50 dollars that can upgrade up to a quad core later if I want to. Any advice. And does anyone know if the prices on Pendtium Ds and stuff will be dropping even more any time soon? I'm wondering since I've been reading stuff on some of teh newer parts planning to come out, including something in '09 that isn't even 775 socket anymore. I think it was rumored to have over 1300 pins. Thanks in advanced.

Some of what I was looking at: I'm still trying to figure out amd systems.

http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=PD-950&c=pw PetiumD 950 106$ 4MB(2MB/core) 3.4GHZ Does anyone know if EWIZ is reputable? The 930 at the same specs and 3.0GHZ was on Newegg for $89 but they stoped listing it one day while I was looking at it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813153074 Maybe around this type of board. I'm not sure how much differnt proccessors can use differnt ram speeds now so I don't quite know what to pick as a motherboard. I know I want PendiumD up to quad core support on DDR2 with probably 800MHZ system bus minimum and probably 800MHz ram, but I don't now how important the ram is on newer DDR2 systems. I'm guessing I want 800 for a possible 1066 or 1333mhz processor. I'm a little stuff on this part of the proccess for an Intel system.

I can get the ram easily enough though I think. I'm just look for something that can overlcock well or underclock well. That was something esle I was wondering if anyone knew also. Do the Pentium Ds overlock well and does the DDR2 stuff. I've seen OCZ ram at 4GBs(2x2) for 60 dollars.

And as far as AMD I'm not sure what to get but they seem like they will drop the price about 10 dollars per component maybe. I'm not sure how their boards work though, or if I am looking at the correct FSB speeds for them against the processors. I was more concerned with their performance compared to the Pentium D series. I've read stuff on the pentium individually but I'm not sure of the difference. Does the FSB speed bring up the system performance that much on amd it competes? I know they have a bit less cach overall. Does anyone know how well they run?

No matter what I am transfering my harddrives over if possible and my case and cd drives and stuff. I"m not sure if I have to get a new power supply yet. It is a 20 pin with the extra 4 pin for the CPU but I don't now if that can be converted as part of the 24 pin connector on these boards or not.

Re: Looking to build a new system.

bought one finally. I have joined the modern age. I bought a Q6600, 4gigs of ram, an 8800GT, a new mobo, and a new PSU a new harddrive for backups and linux and a handy dandy ultra nifty 7 dollar(after rebates and savings) PC tool kit!! Isn't new egg nice!

Now I'm trying to get a flash drive. I'm trying to figure out if Windows xp 32bit would recognize over 4 gigs or not. The 16GB corsair is only 60 dollars after rebate. I'm also trying to see how good it is compared to the other version that I think was said to be faster.
