Joystiq:
I've spent some time defending SOE from the expectations created from the article linked below, and perhaps now you can see why. What John says and what we're told through the proxy of an article can be two very different things. PS3 players could be psyched about an "all but confirmed" Planetside, when that isn't the case at all. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news...ng-This-Spring |

Eh, I dunno. While it's certain this will be a pc-focused game, consoles may work out... if nothing else than an inferior, subordinate class to be controlled and farmed by the PC overlords!
So I'd say expect it, but don't expect it to be a huge deal. |

lol But I actually think Dust 514 may have given them the idea. Smed did not flat out say no after all. It's possible PS3'ers may be getting a game set in Planetside universe that links with Planetside 2. Like maybe a smaller scale combat game set on some backwater planet that has some useful resources. An the stuff they fight for can be used by their Empire in Planetside 2. Kind of a shameless rip off of Dust 514's idea but I wouldn't put it past them to try it. |

PS3 players wont play with PC users. Not just the control thing, although it would be nice to have em, its like gettin to play against the special ed dept. =D
The reason is also not graphics like they often say or controls. Thats all complete BS. The real and only reason MMO's arent on consoles as much is simply the online services of consoles. They are super control freaks with their services. On pc no one controls anything so they can get in and get your content to you, patches, support, etc instantly if they need to and you can play on their servers. With consoles everything goes thru approval processes, often long and limiting. And some even only let you play on their servers. And these services usually want more control and then the business of making money supporting these games for the developers with servers is there too. It all ends up being a pain in the arse and not worth it or just not feasable at all. And definately not viable to put pc and consoles together with all those probs on the console side. Havin said that, SoE is afterall a Sony company. So they can prob get around alot of the bs. But i still dont think it will be enough to make PC vs PS3 fights feasable. Also keep in mind consoles are very weak. A PS3 is only on a 7800 gt at very best, but the graphics could be nerfed to make it work. The real prob is its memory is pathetically low. Those huge battles they want would be a nightmare to get on a system with such low memory. Now you could prob do it with some tweaks and cheats but im guessin it would not be somethin you could do and still let em play with PC players. |

Interresting idea. But i dont want it. Microsofts tests have shown that Console and PC doesnt work well in an FPS, and seeing your empire loosing on the other platform without the ability to do anything about that just sucks. Let them have their seperate servers, without any interaction between each other. Better for both platforms, otherwise PC players would yell at PS3 players for bad aiming, while PS3 players will get frustrated alot because they end up as cannon fooder. Unless they put aiming help in for the PS3 players, but then you would have the PC players complaining. |

And consoles arent exactly weak. They are always completly the same, allowing you to improve the engine for said console. Thats why you cant just run random PC software on a PS3, and cant just emulate a PS3 on your PC and play games that way. |

Well what I meant was more like two separate games just set in the same universe. Like we fight on Auraxis. An they fight on maybe a Moon of Auraxis or some other small planet in the system. Would be smaller scale like MAG probably an when they win they can send special resources to their empire in Planetside 2 an maybe vice versa. I very much doubt Planetside 2 will run on PS3 at all so I wouldn't worry about sharing servers. |
