Night vision?

I know there was a mention of a day/night cycle, and it seemed like it would actually look like it was night. I wonder if there will be some kind of night vision, or Darklight or something. Along the same lines, I always thought if you killed the generator in the base, the lights should go out, or at least maybe except for a few emergency lights. That is, if there will be gens in PS2.

Think about how some of those massive battles would be like if you had them in dark corridors much like you might see in a game like F.E.A.R. I realize the engine in Planetside wouldn't allow for that, but haven't really heard any mention of the possibilities with the new engine. Maybe I'm alone in wanting something like that.

I will say this: If we had dark places like in F.E.A.R., then surround sound would become extremely valuable.

I don't want green vision. If that means no night, then so be it.

I'm partial to night actually being night, with little or no night vision gimmicks. I don't want night time to become "Oh look it's night, better turn on my night vision goggles and stare at 256 shades of green for the next 20 minutes".

Plus I think firefights in the dead of night would be one hell of a light show.

If there would be a night vision i think it should be UBER dark and the only thing you could see is where your inferred light could shine so it wouldn't light up a whole lot just small area might be good if your coming up on someones rabbit hole but other then that it would suck to keep it turned on.

If there is no night vision then they really need to consider making tracers optional and have a way to suppress muzzle flash.

There's no proper nights confirmed, so why would there be night vision?

Because everything looks better in green.

Because in a game without night vision, removing every other way to identify someone in the darkness is a good idea?

As was said in the other thread, if there was night, a nightvision equivalent hopefully wouldn't be the green crap from other games, though I'd be just as happy without any sort of nightvision.

Doesn't have to be green.

Think of FLIR:

It's the future - could be any colors. Just not rainbow thermal please.

Well I hope we will see day/night cycles. I can't really say if I would want night vision in the game though.

Do you know why there are tracers in the first place?

In case he doesn't, it's so we can "trace" where the fire is coming from. Going to, also I guess. So we don't get killwhoring sniper cheaters raining death from some far cloud or floating in space, while remaining invisible.

BTW in Facing Worlds, in Unreal Tournament, did you all ever find the invisible platform in space?

Tracers are used mainly to allow the shooter to adjust fire. Can't see where rounds land at night, right?

They are also used to identify WHO is shooting. It's really easy to do blue-on-blue at night. So for example NATO countries use red tracers and Russia uses green tracers. (Then there's also tracer rounds which are visible under NVGs only.)

As for where the fire is coming from - only on the movies. I'm not sure how many countries adopted that, but UK armed forces have their tracers start to 'burn' after about 200m, making it much more difficult to pinpoint the source.
