Talking Advanced Medic PS2 questions & general "I'm excited!" post

Most people can skip this first couple of paragraphs but I wanted to say my bit

Bit of Background

I'm really uber excited about Planetside 2....never thought we'd see the day let alone it shaping up to be all the things that were missing from Planetside 1.

Ah Planetside, the game that had so much unrealised potential and was a hidden gem not known well enough to many people (remember to advertise this one SOE ). To this day I believe that the Planetside Beta / early release was the deepest/greatest gaming experience I've had to date.

Going from playing tiny round-based Counterstrike maps (thinking that was the 'pinnacle' of online gaming...hehe) to joining the open Beta and suddenly flying across massive Esamir in a Galaxy for the first time (my jaw nearly literally dropping to the floor), going in a 6 fully-loaded Sunderer convoy just to take out a tower on Cyssor and learning how to hot drop (people screaming press "Alt-G!" over local chat) was certainly a gaming experience to behold.

As my sole gaming experience from 2003-2006, Planetside dominated my gaming and real life (nearly de-railing my Uni degree!) but in such an awesome way. Other games since then have felt empty and without purpose in comparison.

Planetside 2 Advanced Medic Questions

Being very excited about Planetside 2, I have scoured documents and forums for tit-bits of information but have a couple of questions regarding medics I'd love to find out a bit more information about...

- Will there still be the ability to rez people in Planetside 2?
- Will the rezzing be instant or a timer as per the current system?
- I'm a little worried that the fast past / squad spawning etc... might make Advanced Medics less used - will there be more incentive to wait for a medic to revive you?
- Will there me a way to make medics aware you are waiting for a rez or to show you there are medics within range? A "snap view to nearby medic" deathcam akin to RTCW would be really good. Ideas about calling a local medic (and other really good "Viva La Support!" thread here.
- If there is a timer based revive system, could consideration be given to carrying corpses away from the danger zone as per the thread here?

Many thanks in advance for any information

I don't see why not.

They want to speed up the pace of combat, so I imagine it will either be very fast or instant.

I'm really hoping Medic evolves into sort of a buff class to make it more useful. They could do things like make your run speed faster, maybe give you a boost to HP, accuracy, things like that. As opposed to being just this skill people pick up so they can touch themselves up on the go, make people who focus on medic these master buffers that can turn a gal drop of 90 pound weaklings into a lean mean fighting machine.

Maybe also give them debuff type weapons also. Nothing that could rack up kills on it's own but when used with a group of Infantry would be a monster.

I personally don't like instant ressing. For certain games it works alright but it feels very shallow and in games like Battlefield, cheap; especially in Rush or on objectives. Arma II's First Aid module was cool but felt very rigid and lengthy. Some simpler form of Arma II's might give a nifty gameplay mechanic for medics.

The ability to drag incapacitated players and a more interactive or immersive way to treat players.

I think America's Army 3 has some treatment interface, can't remember much about it though.

I really dislike instant rezzing also, there should be a delay for sure. I hate it when people pop right up after you kill them it's extremely annoying.

Yeah, I'm hoping it still takes at least 3 - 5 seconds if they speed it up.

Yeah, Hamma, I agree with that. And I am an advmed some of the time. To me, as an advanced med, that is just OD on uberness.

Dragging your buddies to safety before rezzing them would be cool.

As a person who loved playing medic in PS1, I will certainly be picking it back up in PS2. One thing to think about is if there is auto-regen like in CoD. I don't think there will be (and certainly hope there will not be), but alas I see more games adopting the CoD style of regen.

When it comes to rezzing, I would love to see the PS1 return slightly modified. The class system will ensure that far more people rely on medics and not just themselves. I am guessing that a med app would be class specific, I only hope that an engi app comes with it. I imagine a somewhat tedious process would ensue if you had to find not 1 but 2 people to get full health and full armor.

One way to do it could be Brink's way, where the medic throws a revival syringe to an incapped friendly and then they use the syringe on themselves. The animation is pretty cool and it's a cool way to add a little delay to the ressing.

It needs to be enough time that you have a good chance at dealing with the medic. But certainly not current PS.

I think a "1, 2, 3, rezzed" count is about right. It might be cool if you could 'charge' it, and have it fire without having targeted the corpse yet. So you could run up charging it and when you get to the guy have done a good timing job so you're not stopped for very long.

Also: One of my joys is shocking enemies dead with the defibrillator in BF games. Or drilling a hole in their head as an engineer.

AoE Rez please. The delay should be on the player being rezzed have them get up and shake their head after 2 seconds or so they can move and fire again.

With the advanced speed of combat AdvMedics need to be more powerful than before.

That depends on how speedy the combat actually is. There needs to be some sense of self preservation less the game turn into tidal waves of zombies constantly clashing and raising each other from death. Can't imagine playing a lemming would be very fun, even if it has a chaingun....and rises from the grave with shock paddles...

Hang on, might have to think about that a bit.

I also kinda liked that way. Does not take a lot of time for the medic, but does not allow instant-rez either.

I am worried about the increased spawn speed for the pace of combat they mentioned affecting the medics as well. You have medics to stay alive longer. Thats kinda pointless if you can just jump back into combat right away.

It will be a fine balance of spawn time vs using medics. We will just have to wait and see. And rant and give suggestion when the beta comes

Yeah, the instant rez for the medic, but some downside after the rez(time delay, blurry vision, can use weapons, etc) would be my ideal. The 10 second scroll bar was annoying.

Even if its instant, it definitely has to be the dead players choice to respawn too. Highly annoying in PS to die and be rezzed in the line of fire by an overzealous medic.
