We know that jacking vehicles isn't planned for PS2, and while we've been told it's due to financial/time constraints, I'm thinking there's more to it than that.
So, assuming vehicle jacking is something we'll never see for whatever reason, what else could hacking a vehicle achieve? Personally, I like the idea of having a "hacked" vehicle blow up, either when someone attempts to enter the driving seat or perhaps when someone attempts to fire one of it's guns, or maybe even making it drive/fly directly forward at full acceleration for a fixed duration when someone tries to drive it. Obviously it can't be anything too obvious until it's too late to do anything about it, otherwise it'll simply get "unhacked", but I figure you guys would probably have better ideas than I do (just keep them fun). |

Edit: You too dsi? Come on, I know nothing can probably be as satisfying as turning it on it's own empire, but just having it deconstruct would be incredibly limp. Last edited by Vancha; 2011-07-18 at 03:15 AM. |

I think the balance issues they're mentioning is you can't let someone upgrade a vehicle with more powerful weapons and then give it to someone else. I'm honestly not sure if they're going to let people of the same empire give vehicles to other players even.
Imagine you customize a vehicle at the terminal with a 50 caliber for the passenger then just unlock it so another player can jump in and drive it. Someone could pump these out for others leading me to the idea that it won't be possible for the same reason you can't trade guns with other players. |

Causing shots fire not hit where your aiming
Fuzz on vehicle screen making it difficult to see things Random times of your turret turning by its self or vehicle turning/speeding/or stopping by itself. Seems annoying enough. All controls are reversed, IE forward is left turn and changes this configuration every few seconds so you cant memorize the new way it is Vehicle also firing its weapons randomley Complete immobolization for say 5 minutes or more until another hacker removes it Vehicle randomally shutting down for few seconds Overload:Vehicle begins to overheat to the point of explosion. All occupiants inside are damaged per second until they leave the vehicle or the vehicle explodes killing its occupients and heavily damaging nearby objects/players Delayed Virus:A virus set to a specific time or until activation of the hacker performing any of the above examples. Imagining hacking a Galaxy and it taking off full of players. Press a button, and watch from below |

How about: giving the hacker remote control (movement only) of the vehicle? Wait till someone enters, then start driving the complete other direction Run softies over with it. Maybe even remote detonation...

I think when hacking you should get an option weather you can control the vehicle or your can mess with the electronics of it, also giving you a little tracking device so you know where its gone at all times, then you can blow it up from another continent and there going to be like WTF.

That's more like it. Give the REK an alternate fire that allows you to control the vehicle for X seconds on demand after "successfully" hacking it (pressing alternate fire a second time would cancel it). The question is, would you get to see from the drivers point of view while doing it? You'd be unable to move yourself while controlling it, and infiltrators would be lit up for the duration...

It has been stated that vehicles will have sub systems, my guess is hacking will allow you to disable some of those (based on your level). For example removing the HUD, messing with the vehicle's radar to miss identify friends as foes, stopping the engine (this includes turret rotation), ect. Making hacked vehicles explode on a timer or player action is a fun idea too, but should be an option for engineers, not hackers. |
