lucky shot

Since there is a "cone of fire" does this mean that if you kill someone that its pretty much lucky in less they in like a tank or something alot bigger?

when you shoot your gunt he cone (crosshair) gets wider so would killing some be a lucky shot from far away or even pretty close

Remember Half-life? Not CS, but original Half-life and the submachine gun it had? That used a CoF aiming system. So you still had to aim, but there was some luck involved, yes. At least, that's what I *think* a CoF aiming system is like, I assume Planetside's will have a lot more to it since it's a much newer game? Anyone know?

it just means you have to put out small burst at a time, if your the type of person who does go in holding the trigger you'll probably get gunned down

I hope that PS adopts some of the concepts from CS. Not exactly, but the princables. Like shooting on the run bein more inactuarte, and ducking being more acurate, along with shooting in bursts.

heres my take on the cone of fire. all weapons have their cone tightest when not being fired, like so.
(.)

use of the weapon causes recoil, particularly in the bigger ones, that widens the cone. the more recoil, the wider the cone. depending on the kick of the weapon, after your first shot, the cone may look like either this
(...)
or this if it has a lot of recoil.
(.........)
while you are firing, the cone gets progressively wider. when you stop pressing the 'fire' button, the cone shrinks very fast. so unless you have a very low recoil on your weapon of choice, controlled bursts are more accurate than full auto. full auto will be best suited for suppressive and covering fire. i suggest that if you want to see the cone-of-fire system in action, find the 'planetbreak' video.

to find the planetbreak video do a search on the official game discussion forums for 'planetbreak'. it should show you a couple threads and one of them has a link to a download.

Oh Lord, please guide thy bullet to the opponent, and may all who claim victory say so in your name... *bullet nails enemy in the heart* Thank the lord!

not intentionally...

EDIT : Now that I think real hard, I do remember a sniper that always prayed or did something right before firing. Still, I wasn't thinking that at the time.
