Booting problems

So (in case this is relevant, but I doubt it) I booted up Magicka through steam, came back and it was frozen. Tried to alt tab, tried to bring uptask manager, no dice. So then I held down my power button and restarted, but then the computer wouldn't boot.

Stuck here first: http://i.imgur.com/eTFuC.jpg
Got into bios to change first boot device from removable to hard disk: http://i.imgur.com/SLS6c.jpg
Then it sticks here for a while: http://i.imgur.com/Noh75.jpg
Sometimes it says a disk read error has occured CAD to restart
Then this: http://i.imgur.com/fPYoU.jpg

So I put in my windows CD and now it's asking me if I want to install windows. I'd rather not lose everything without a fight so what do?

Thanks,

Re: Booting problems

You can still reinstall windows by doing the upgrade option instead of custom in order to preserve your files. Like photos, documents, movies, and so on.

Did you try booting into safe mode at all?

Do you have a Nvidia mobo? If not that code maybe saying there is an issue with the video card maybe.

My mobo is an EVGA 680i.

Now when I restart I just get disk read-errors after the first screen, no opportunity to boot into safe mode I don't think.

How does upgrading work? When i got to the install screen it had "install windows 7" and "Repair win7" (which didnt work by the way).

Does it go like install 7 -> install options?

Re: Booting problems

Is it still doing that Bags? If so was that the Windows starting screen or the Windows install setup starting. If you are freezing it could be your ram, motherboard, or worse case as you noted your hard drive.

Finally got chkdsk to run and I was able to boot normally.

You're welcome. Having another system in the house is always nice when these things happen lol.
