Hi everyone,
First of all, i'm French (OMAGAD LAWL DBBLE SHIT) Last time I was thinking about traduction and localization in games like World of Warcraft, or Battlefield, it was pure shit, and of course PS 1: When Planetside was full english, weapon's names were sooo cool like they were, remembering Jackhammer, Vanguard, Prowler.... then came the French traduction... French for : Jackhammer : Marteau-Piqueur Lasher : Fouettard Punisher : Châtieur In French, we call it" des vrais noms de merdes à la con". I know that english-talking people don't care about this, but I really hope they won't be any localization for Vehicules names, weapons names, and things like implants, etc. Because localization was really, really, really bad in PS1. Names were fine in PS1, no need to translate them, the "Fouettard" in French sounds like a tool for some Sado-masochist fun party. Did german people or other people got a bad localization ? If there is any localization (haven't heard about that), please keep names in English ! People aren't afraid by english names, they are afraid when the English language prevents them from understanding the game And by the way, Planetside in French might be translated by : Du coté des Planètes so PLEASE dont change it either |

I am not a fan of localisations for reasons cited above.
And I agree, if they will be present, please consider keeping the names for all weapons, vehicles and equipment, because the second one of my countrymen asks me about stuff and forces me to translate back the names of all the gear, on the fly, is the second I will stop talking to them. |

Its a very basic rule of locs that you DO NOT TRANSLATE NAMES, EVER!
Its quite a shame that some tarts still dont understand that. To make this more clear: You Translate "Rifle", but you do not translate "Heavy Gauss Rifle MK II". This way people using different game language can still easily talk about stuff, without the need to figure out what weapon / Vehicle / bla the other guy is talking about. In any way, im using english. Figured many many years ago that any kind of german locs are just extremly bad, and often enough miss important information. |

Well, in Russian it was displayed as "Хлыст (Lasher)" in the description only, and everywhere else it was always Lasher. Like "<russian text> Lasher <russian text continues>"
But anyway it's counry's retailers' job to localize the game not SOE's. EDIT: Thus you're asking the wrong instance. Last edited by NewSith; 2011-09-07 at 05:18 PM. |

SOE does European (German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, UK English) localization and publishing themselves. Note that anyone who forces localization of a game to Dutch will see their sales drop (one PS3 game did so, and people refused to buy it till they added a way to switch the game to English!) |

Typically third-party companies or local distributors do localizations and localization testing. Only huge publishers would typically do it themselves, and even that is not for all localized versions. Sometimes the developer handles localization, but only for EFIGS, etc. It all depends on everything.
