I'm with the Vanu
|
The Frost
---------------------------------------------------- A lone figure moved slowly over the frozen landscape. A chill wind blew from the east, the figures blue and gold armor did little to keep the cold out. Every few moments he vanished behind chunks of ice and rock, only to reappear seconds later. He traveled in this manner for some minutes before reaching a small outcropping thats particular structure granted him a little reprise from the frozen winds. The figure crouched, and leaning his rifle against the rock and removing his helm and pulling a small hand rolled cigarette out of pouch on his waist and carefully lighting it. For a few moments he sat, taking long draws and then slowly blowing the smoke out, savoring its flavor. Then where his head had been a moment before a red mist appeared and he slowly slumped onto his side, worries such as lack of smokes now behind him. The corpse suddenly became nothing more then a speck as Dio lowered the bolt driver. Slowly he chambered another round and slung the weapon over his shoulder. If the other four commandos in his squad had preformed their jobs as well as he had the New Dawn controlled Bio-Lab would soon be in the hands of the Vanu. He picked up the spent casing and stowed it in one of the many pouches along his belt, leaving no trace of his passing. A crisp breath of wind blew out of the east as he started off once more, this time for the Bio-Lab itself. Dio traveled for more then two hours with nothing but the occasional beep over the radio as his comrades let one another know they stilled lived. However, as he neared the Bio-Lab he spotted a stopped Harasser and sitting around a small fire built not far from it a pair of young men in blue and gold sat enjoying a bottle of amber liquid. From the looks of it they had already enjoyed quite a bit of it already. Tobias was supposed to have cleared this area hours ago. His work had been sloppy, again. The only sound of their passing from this world was that of the above mentioned bottle shattering on the cold rock. Dio took the liberty of appropriating one of their radios; they would not be needing them where they had gone. Near the Bio-Lab an ANT vehicle, or what had been one, lay on its side, soldiers in blue and gold uniforms now stained with crimson lay about its hulk, their own blood frozen in puddles around them. Sitting on the still smoking hulk a young woman in a black and purple uniform sat, apparently concentrating on cleaning her nails with her Force Blade. "Jessana." Dio called out in greeting as he approached the young lass. "Dio, so nice of you to join me, I was beginning to think that no one else was coming." the small girl replied "Not all of our targets were in the same location." "Not all your targets included a MAX unit that Intelligence failed to brief you about either." she said, motioning to charred battle suit smoldering in the snow behind the ANT. "Point taken" Dio returned. "Well, your here now, and times ah wasten, off we go." said Jess as she hopped down from the wreak. She ran a hand though her short black hair before dawning her mask, and with the press of a few buttons on her wrist consol, vanishing from view. Dio watched the small pair of foot prints pad off before following them towards the Bio-Lab. The Lab ---------------------------------------------- Dio took one last look at the snow covered landscape before he ducked though the small door that led into the facility. He himself loved the crisp cool weather of the area and had trouble understanding why the others seemed to hate assignments on this continent. The Main entrance was heavily fortified and the six commandos would have been slaughtered in a head on assault. The one corpse inside the portal told how many guards there at this back door, and how much trouble the teams cloaker had killing him. Inside the rest of the team waited. Kiwi, the computer and demolitions specialist stood to the left, next to him Tobias, a sniper and the teams medic. Jessana, the teams shadow operative, stood next to Tobias, she was again working on cleaning her nails. Sasha, the teams Combat specialist, stood off to one side doing a final inventory of her arsenal. As the ranking commando Dio was not only a sniper and the teams pilot, but also the mission commander. "All right people, you know the mission, lets get this done. Now on specifics, Kiwi has gotten us some information form the door terminal that may be off assistance. Kiwi." Dio said, giving the floor to the Hacker. "Thank you Captain. As you know, without the energy from the ANT the Lab will not have the power to use its Matrixing and regrowth facility. Additionally the base's power is even lower then we at first suspected, and it seems that two of the bases six generators, in particular the ones that supply power to the eastern barrack and the wall defensive systems, are in need of repair and not currently functioning. According to the roaster in the base there are one hundred and seventy four troops stationed here including twelve MAX units. This data is pretty irrelevant though, as I assume all of you are familiar with the New Dawns bad record keeping habits. In addition there is research data here on a project 'Darklight' that I believe we should look into, though no more information about this project was available where I could find it. On a more negative note there is in record keeping a invoice for the delivery of seventy Jackhammer shotguns. I dont think I need to tell you why this is not a good thing. Thats all I have, any questions?" "Yea, are there any cloakers on the register here Kiwi?" Jessana asked "Thats a negative Corporal, and a bonus for us." "One more, any more motion detector webs or anything like that I might wanna know about?" Jess inquired "Indeed, sorry for not mentioning it. In the area around the command center as many as twelve new motion sensors have been installed." Kiwi told her. "If no one has anymore questions, lets get this thing started. Good luck and God speed people." Kiwi and Sasha ------------------------------------------------------------ Kiwi clutched his Suppressor as he followed Sasha down the grey corridor. Things in the base were quite so far, but Sasha was not often subtle in her methods, and even though she was using a Suppressor for now, she was like to cause a commotion. They had one of the harder objectives of the mission, for not only did they have to blow the generators, they then had to get to the command center and disable the base. Hopefully Jess would take care of most of the Hostiles in the path to Command center though. The base seemed a empty, and he almost dared to hope they would get to the generators without Sasha bringing down every member of the New Dawn down on them. Then Sasha looked around the next corners. "Six of em, none in armor, all of em have Jackhammers. They are talking, I am gonna go in, cover Me." was all the warning Kiwi had before Sasha headed around the corner. The soft sound of her suppresser was soon followed by the roar of the blue clad soldiers shotguns. Kiwi rolled across the opening that Sasha had just went into, looking down the new passage to assess the situation. Two gold clad soldiers had been killed by Sasha's initial pass and another wounded, and yet a fourth solider had learned the hard way that one of his squad mates was a terrible aim. Sasha herself had ducked into another corridor that was between Kiwi and the men. Leaning around the corner he noticed that the soldiers attention was concentrated on the passage Sasha had ducked into and not on himself, heck they probably did not even know he was there. And after two small bursts from his Suppressor they did not know anything at all. A third burst took care of the wounded solider. "Sasha, I think would could have handled that better, now everyone on this base knows we are here, and has a good idea where we are." "All the more reason to move out, just give me a moment to get one of these shotguns, might come in handy." Sasha said as she scooped up one of the fallen troops Jackhammers. With that she hurried off. Kiwi shoke his head before following. He doubted she would use the Suppressor again. So much for stealth. In the distance he heard what he thought to be machinegun fire. Sasha and Kiwi found several more groups of men, and Sasha dealt with them in ways that usually resulted in enough blood to make Kiwi quite sick. The doors to the generators were made of several inches of steel and were locked with a twelve digit code. Neither of them knew it. About two minutes later Kiwi was finish and Sasha and himself were inside. Less then a minute later they were out, leaving behind most of their explosives. Kiwi pressed the signal button on his wrist consol rapidly three times then paused for a moment before pressing it a fourth and finale time, letting the other team mates new that he had set up the bombs and that the area around the generators would not be a very good place to be in four minutes from then. And with that Kiwi and Sasha set off for the Command center. |

Jessana
------------------------------------------------ Jessana was having a ball. She liked killing, alot, and though she was pretty sure that was not mentally healthy she did not really mind. Aside from the man at the door, her first kill in the base was a group of seven soldiers with Jackhammers. She had walked wound the corner, silent as death and completely unseen thanks to her cloaking field generator. She could not think of anyway to kill seven well armed men with a beamer in such close corridors, no room to move and dodge. Then an Idea came to her. The seven men were quite surprised when a very attractive young woman walked around the corner, a very attractive and completely nude young woman. Jessana licked one of her fingers and rubbed her nipple, letting it turn hard. Then with the same finer she beckoned to the men and walked back around the corner. The men, thinking not with the head attached to their shoulders, followed her as quickly as they could, leaving their shotguns behind. Only in the moments before their deaths, deaths which took Jess only moments, did they consider that it was a bit odd that a young girl would come onto the base and for some reason want to have sex with a group of soldiers for no apparent reason. Jess moved on. Twenty minutes and almost as many dead later Jess rounded the corner and entered the hall way that would lead her to the Command center. Where nothing but a overly large Adams apple had before existed a large knife now seemed to blossom like a deadly rose in the lone door guards throat. Jessana then liberated the man of his key card and opened the door. In went the incendiary grenade, and shut went the door. Jess really hoped the computers Kiwi needed access to were fire proof. She was enjoying her latest victory when she herd something disturbing over the radio. Someone named Ranger, or maybe that was his rank in the New Conglomerate, Jess did not know, was about to attack the invader, and this invader was by the Command center. Jess was cloaked though, and not really bothered. She took up possession by the door and waited for her next kill. It came, but it was wearing a strange pair of goggles, and instead of looking around foolishly at the dead it looked right at her. Then all three of the barrels of its Jackhammer roared at the same time. After that Jessana did not see what it did, for Jessana's world had just gone black. Dio ------------------------------------------------- The Explosion threw him off the roof and out onto the cold ice of the court yard. He fought off unconsciousness as black specks danced like stars before his eyes. Gotta move. He tried to get up, but found his legs would not comply. Looking around he saw a Vanguard sitting silently a few meters away, and began to crawl towards it, hoping that the smoke and fire would shield him from the eyes of any remaining New Dawn troops. The BOHICA commando was dead, he was sure of that, so that was one less thing to worry about. It was a hard crawl, and after a few feet he was doing it with one arm, as the other one seemed to be broken, or at least the bone poking out near his forearm suggested as much. One he crawled under the Vanguard he took a moment to rest, nearly passing out in the process, then looked to his broken arm, but not at the bone protruding from the skin, but at the bracer slightly below it. A few painful keystrokes later the regenerations implant he had received activated. Combined with the pain of his wounds it was to much, and soon Dios world faded into blackness. Dio did not know how long he had been out, but the implant had done his job and aside from fatigue, which a few pills from his pouch would cure, he was fine. The day had faded to deep night, and the base was shrouded in darkness, light coming only from the few small fires that burned around the base. Reaching into his pouch he drew out a few pep pills and swallowed them dry. He hated to use them, but he needed his reflexes in top condition, and with his currently stiff joints and droopy eyelids they were far from it. Dio carefully crawled out from under the Vanguard and, standing up to stretch his stiff joints, surveyed his situation. After everything went to hell and they lost contact with Kiwi and Jessana, Dio had decided that himself and Tobias should meet up with Sasha and get the hell out. Sasha reported combat with several troops that showed a hell of a lot more skill then any of your standard New Conglomerate or New Dawn trooper. It was during a fire fight with several of these troopers that she was wounded and lost contact with Kiwi. Dio could not raise Kiwi on the radio after that either. Like Jess he was presumed dead. Tobias and himself never met up with Sasha. In a gun battle between the two of them and a large number of troops including two MAX units and a member of the New Conglomerate outfit BOHICA, and one of the outfits more deadly commandos at that, Ranger. In the insuring battle someone had launched explosives into a building containing large amounts of ammo, and the resulting explosion had killed a good deal of the enemy, and had, unless Dios eyes lied to him, killed Tobias and Ranger, who had been fighting near the building. Dio checked his radio, but it had been damaged in the explosion and did not look like it would be of much use as anything but a crude club. Well, Dio thought, now I am alone. And I have a Beamer. Great. Dio considered for a moment going to see if he could find Tobiass corpse, the medical supplies he had would be useful, but the body probably buried under quite a bit of rubble, so it would be an exorcise in futility. Well, the mission seemed to have gone wrong, but the fact that the base power was still down and it was not crawling with New Dawn troops, in fact he could not see any living persons, though plenty of dead lay about, proved the New Conglomerate had not yet had time to retaliate and this would give the Vanu time to move in soon and take it if they acted fast. Dio gave himself a new mission, find a radio, contact the Vanu, and if that failed, find a bird and get the hell out of here. The base had a small hanger with a squad of Mosquito aircraft and a galaxy according to reports, and those would work just fine. Biting back fatigue as he waited for the pills to start working, Dio set off. To Be Continued Last edited by Tobias; 2003-03-03 at 11:27 PM. |

Very nice.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |
