As a followup to this thread I wanted to have a thread dedicated to how important the Music in PlanetSide is to you.
For me it was one of the best musical scores in a game, it was music that immersed you in the game and when you heard it you knew it was PlanetSide. We all know Don Ferrone was the composer of the original music, and he's been floating around recently doing some remixes of those classics. How important is it to you that he return and do the music for PlanetSide 2? |

I agree, I liked the music in PS1. However, I did disable it after a while. Screws up situation awareness too much imo. I like to play other music while I'm playing the game tbh. But I usually turn the music volume down enough so it doesn't drown out the in-game sounds.

Yeah, the music was awesome, but I too disabled it after a while as you miss battle queues with it on. I do always have it enabled in the caves, however, as the music changes when there is a hotspot and makes knowing when an enemy is nearby easier.

who plays video games for the music?
I always turn off any music as soon as I load any game the first time,I am playing a game that needs my full attention,I don't need some silly soundtrack distracting me, or playing while I am trying to lead a platoon and having to talk over the damn music. I would rather hear what is going on around me. |

Planetside music was something I could just listen in loops over and over. Especially the theme song. To me it was a defining peice of music with power in it. Back when I played WoW I even imported some of Planetsides music for the zones in WoW and actually fit well. Definitly a strong choice to pick Don or at least heavily consider. I'm open to new people to direct the music but I hope they at least give Don a good chance since tha majority of the players it seems loved his music. Maybe even have a team of Don and others working together

I think it'd be cool to have incidental music, more than continual music. Like, you fly through a gate, some music...come up on a base, capture a base you're at, lose a base you're at.
Who actually composes it matters little, as long as they're good (do Don would be a good choice...but someone else could be fine).

I think Planetside music was great. I probably left it toggled on longer than any other game music. Eventually it was disabled. Which is my normal practice for multiplayer games.
Music is much better used for single player games, game trailers or cinematic type scenes. I hope they bring Don back at least for some trailer type scores. |

The music in planetside, especially the music on the install CD and the first Menu Intro/Loop set the stage that PlanetSide the original was an EPIC game with EPIC combat and everything was going to be EPIC. That initial stage-setting is really important IMO. Hopefully PS2 delivers more of the same up-front feel of EPIC that PS the original had.

I always kept the music on, it was easy enough to hear weapon sounds and boomers being armed over it.
Plus after swapping in the newer versions of ferrone's music i litterally jizzed my pants in the caves "new Hades tunnel....."
