How about a system that captures all the events that has happened every 24 hours and saves it as a file that can be viewed in a program that can run the video. The application for this would be open the file and having a free spectate mode that you can zip around and view the maps from any angle at any point during that 24 hours. Very similar if not exactly how halo 3 replays worked where you can zoom around the map its self.
These 24hr video files can be download from the Planetside 2 website. And they keep a total of 3 files up at a time. Meaning the latest they keep the videos are from 3 days ago. I can imagine the downside of this is simply the massive amount of memory this could potentially take. But the flipside is being able to make awesome videos from fights you saved and great perspective to film from. |

I would assume you would do it like TF2. The game saves the replay info and then you can use the in game graphics engine to render it out into a video file format and post it to youtube or save it to your hard drive or whatever.
I have no idea how viable this would be on a server wide scale. |

Add to that you could see from any player view and you will have perfect anti cheater solution. If you really wonder how could someone kill you, you go to watch it from his perspective. And if hes really cheating you could submit it to soe with link to that sequence so they can ban him faster.

Been suggested. I tweeted Higby a few days ago to see if they had considered it. He didn't reply back.

We're moving to demanding cloud environment here at webhosting.net and such things would require massive storage capacity, specially if you want to "zip" around, that means you're creating a copy and making it a virtual environment. That's insane amount of work, and money. It's not practical.

Unreal has been able to do this for years
I think the real question is can they record enough data Client side with out decreasing performance. also memory shouldn't become an issue most larger objects are static thus always visable with in reason of distance. the closer you get too one area the non static objects become visable and the farther you get from another nonstatic object it begins to disappear thus incressing and decrssing memory on the fly |

Suggested about 3 months ago but the thread has been inactive for the last two. One of the top ideas in the vault!
It would be nice to get some developer recognition in the highest rated threads, whether it is being considered or if the decision has been made one way or the other. |

Hey I have an idea. It's not exactly a solution, but what if we have fixed Camera's? This may lead to people intrinsically being drawn to fight at said camera's however. Maybe there is only a few of them? Or maybe every Base and tower has camera's built in. The scale would be enormous but you could then Access any of the camera's through an out of game source or something.
Cyssor>Leza Tech plant> Vehicle bay camera. Think JitaCam from EVE but 24/7 and no witty commentary. (Unless you want me to do it) |
