Hi all,
I've been playing quite alot of PS recently, using up my free time on it. And this has reminded me of some of the horrid game mechanics of it.. The big old sphere of influence! What a pile of crap! I would like to see this gone in PS2! I could rant on for hours about why I want it gone but I wont, but I would like to see what you folks think of it? Morto. Please do, I would like to see what you think of it. Just starting threads because you dislike something doesn't sound like a good road to go down, please give reasoning.

Ill start with the ENG's, Engineers cant put that really tactical piece of kit there because you are in an NME's SOI!!!! However I can put it in a field 6 mile from the base and shoot a tree! get in!!!
Now i know Sont did allow some things to be put in the NME's SOI, but it wasn't enough for me. In real war situations for e.g. would you not be able put that big nice piece of kit where you wanted?, if a base was unmanned? It just grinds on me. Its one of my pet hates about PS, and would love to see it removed in PS2. I suppose this thread is about a few things too, why cant you place a mine indoors? Now before you start I know this has complications, but what in the real world stops you from putting mines on the floor on your kitchen? Nothing, just its dame right insane. The danger involved in putting mines in your kitchen is unreal. But for some reason the mines in PS, have a nice big green ring round them to stop friendlies blowing their leg off. I suppose I would like that to be removed as well, if you lay a mine, its "live" until something steps on it. BOOM its over. Now who in their right mind would put mines indoors if you have friendlies running about? Nobody. Well nobody with a brain. |

We should definitely be able to put mines in kitchens
The SOI is a big part of keeping track of the xp bonus for taking bases btw.

Another thing, why cant you place mines on walls? Its just game mechanics I suppose, just PS has some of the best and worst. And I know why, to stop mine spamming indoors and stuff. But it ruins the game for me, although it is one of my most loved games. I just hope PS2 has a bit more about it.

I would like to see the ability to set up some engineer constructs in and near enemy bases though. Obviously balance comes first, but I don't think that a SOI exclusion zone is the only way to go. Also, forget just planting mines in more locations, I want PS2's explosive packs to be more advanced as well. So we can't hack enemy vehicles any more? That's okay, just plant a couple boomers on that weak spot of their armor and wait for the driver to get back in. Kaboom! |

Sounds like you have issues with restrictions on the lower level engi specs (higher ones can put stuff in the enemy soi) and with some other terrain limits on deployables. Not with the SoI.
If you want to put mines in their CY then spec for it, not seeing that issue being a problem at all. And mines indoors is just goofy. Use a boomer, or maybe they will add mines with laser tripwires for indoors, but actual mines you run over indoors is just stupid, you dont put mines like that indoors, you cant bury em in the metal grates or concrete floors. If you have ideas or whatever for engie stuff then lets hear it, plenty of cool ideas for that. But goin on about the soi doesnt make much sense since it really has nothin do do with this. Its like blaming the sky for your plane falling out of the air when you are tryin to fly thru it because you have no wings. Its not the sky's fault, get some wings.

Well, in PS1, boomers filled the role of indoor CE. I really can't think of a reason why you shouldn't be allowed to put mines indoors though. Like you said, if they make it so friendlies also set off mines then the placement indoors would be self policing. As for the CE in SOIs, I kinda like the way they did it there. Seems to me they were doing it to restrict the abilities with certifications. So, you had to cert yourself into being able to lay CE in enemy SOIs. Thus reducing the amount of certs you can use in other areas.

Just its limitations on tactics made the game a little flat. In some cases you would have a squad of 3/4 being attacked by a much larger force, and being able to get "very tactical" would allow a small force to crush a much bigger one. Of course with tactics. I know some bigger forces can be cruched with good planning, but I mean big differences, like 30-5. Im not saying 5 could stop them but keep them at bay long enough for backup to arrive |

As someone mentioned when I think of SOI I think of the method to track XP Bonus rather than anything else, the question is with the new territory capture system will this system even be needed anymore.
