Give us a release date already, stop with all the spoilers and bs, no one cares, all we care about is when PS2 is going to be released and when can we play it. The release date was set way back when in Q1 2011, in like 2010. How is it your making drawing of characters and vehicles still but you had plan to release the game 7 months ago, but decided not to because you wanted to make it perfect?? If the game was almost done, fine tuning doesn't take 7 months. Sounds like a big PR boost, sounds like something SOE would do... just goes to show you soe will promote the hell out of something but when it comes to customers were all retards... Guess there to busy ripping off little kids playing MTG:Tactics and fyi, Tanarus was the best game they ever made...
Why is it ok to give spoilers for video games, but if you give spoilers for movie or tv show, your sentenced to hell?? This should be no different. |

Then, personally I enjoy watching screenshots, reading stories and watching trailers ("spoilers") of an upcoming game. I usually re-read/watch these things if the game is of my liking. Finally, your post lacks point. Chill out. |

As most of the community understands it, the initial release date you're referring to was for Planteside Next. It was supposed to be a re-rendering of all the graphics, sound, etc for the old engine. Just reskin the old stuff and make it pretty using modern graphics mechanics.
In developing a new engine, ForgeLight, seemingly for the next Everquest title, it became apparant to SOE that the technology could be used for a Planetside sequel as well. This is when the original idea of the re-imaging Planetside got scrapped and development of an entirely new game came into being, and supposedly the name change to Planetside 2. Along with the new graphics capabilities that have to be developed to use the ForgeLight engine, you've also got the development cycle for creating all of the new infrastructure for what is now essentially a "new" game. Certification system, hit and damage definition and balance, experience ladders, environments (hand crafted), etc all have to be revamped as it's all new. Not only is it just an effort to modernize the graphics, but an effort to modernize each and every aspect of the game. Quite frankly, if it's going to be out even by summer 2012 it'll be quite a feat as that is actually an extremely fast development cycle for a AAA game. (Have you seen the in game resolution pics in the media section? props to TRay and team, that shit is sick!) So cut SOE some slack as the technology jump from what was going to be done to what is being done is a major leap in the resources it takes. Hell, a lot of people have been waiting so long for the next iteration of this amazing game that even an extra year to make it more badass and for quality assurance isn't the end of the world. Don't misread me, we all want it now, but I'd much prefer for SOE to get it right and produce an addictive and sustainable game than to have a bad launch and ruin all their hard work (and all the fun the community is expecting to have playing it!!!) How the hell is giving away information on a non-plot driven video game at all like spoiling a TV show or a movie?
If this was a plot driven game and they were giving away how the story progressed, sure, but Planetside 2? You went full retard there. Try researching the thing you are posting about a little further next time. |

lol wat
Listen man, the original release date was for a previously abandoned plan to simply give Planetside a makeover and let it be F2P. Once they realized the potential they had with their new engine, they decided to start over and make Planetside 2 as the ideal game based on 8 years of research during the first one. I would still like SOE to eventually update Planetside with basic graphics and fixes once Planetside 2 is released and make it F2P as well for the few that might prefer the old style. I am also stoked that they made this decision, the potential that Planetside 2 has is enormous and although I hate not knowing and getting this sometimes irritatingly slow dribble of information on the off-weeks and weekends, I would rather they take all the time they need to get us a solid product on release, prepared for the masses. That last part has me a little worried, I've been reading Smedly's Twitter feed lately and there have been capacity issues from the F2P traffic, apparently they hadn't planned for it. TRay did throw in a comment recently that Planetside 2 is next so they better be ready this time, the gaming community is set to explode when this comes out due to the accessibility and quality and it will definitely spread. |
