So for all of you knowledgeable to know what All Points Bulletin was, you know how big of a flop that game had been, and they had hardcore problems in terms of weapon balance and replay value (which was practically none, the missions were poorly produced and were EXTREMELY repetitive). But the game had amazing other aspects; customization, gangs, the Environment in the two playable areas, and the in game Music player!
Literally just throw in all the music from your desktop and it was right there when you needed it, they had a great integration when you got into a car with a bumping sound system and made the music 10X better than in a standard car (the music would play when you got out of the car, just not as well). I know that Planetside 2 is getting geared up for more modern shooters which (let's be honest here) are practically all kill-whoring solo-ers, having no one to talk to it would be nice to rock out to System of a Down while wiping the floor with [insert opposing empire name here]'s heads. I for one see having an in game music player would be amazing, and being ambitious this great idea crossed my mind about having an outfit-wide broadcast as an option. Think of it, y'all load up into 3 Gal's and a posy of ES Aircrafts, and as soon as everyone takes off The Ride of the Valkyries (or other battle/rage inspiring song) begins to play... like how much more badass can you get than that, all your troops are pumped up ready to kick ass and take names! Of course there's the option to turn it off but I for one love the idea of having the option of my own music collection in the game.

APB did not allow other players to hear your music.
Well it did, if both of you had the same track and Last FM recognized both. Otherwise it played a song it recognized as being similar. Which is where, in my opinion, the usefulness of the system ends. I would prefer the devs skip putting development time into such a system when people can just use Winamp to play music anyway, and instead work on important stuff (like showing us the Scythe alredy :P) |

I imagine that Planetside Radio will be back up and running once Planetside 2 comes out, lots of folks seemed to really enjoy having that.
I don't really see the need to add an in-game music player though, if there was one I would certainly not want to hear everyone else's music in my ears. |

APB used last.fm to catalog your music and, when you played your favorite MP3, and other players had it on their hard drives as well (and had APB properly configured), they heard the same music off their local MP3 file. If you didn't have that file, APB would play the most similar one you have, based off your list of MP3's and last.fm's recommendation. Cool, huh? Anyway, the last thing we need is voice spam. It will be bad enough that you will be able to stream music through voice chat anyway if you wanted to... :P |
