Not to take for granted what the Devs are doing for us.
I've seen quite a few complaints recently about things not living up to expectations.. and I wanted to make sure that people realize what is going on here. I know this is not the majority of folks but I thought it important to make a post on it. I was around for the entire launch of PlanetSide 1 from very early beta right up until the release day and for many years after. I got to see first hand the PR and Marketing for that game. I also got to interact with the Developers much more than the community did. Everything was very structured and.. often times awkward. What we are seeing now for PlanetSide 2 is almost the polar opposite from what I experienced back in late 2002 early 2003. The devs especially are extremely excited to interact with the community on many levels, almost anyone has access to talk to a dev if they want to. And the devs are more than willing to interact with and answer questions for the community and fans. Heck the devs even come live on the air and talk about the game. Take a look at any other game in development out there right now, I'd challenge anyone to find anything even remotely similar to what we have here. We have it good folks - we know the devs are reading the forums and listening to our feedback. We know this because they post here and talk about it on social media. So remember when there is another broadcast or something that the Devs do not even have to do it. They are doing it for us, the community. |

Glad you posted something up. The moans and complains here and there were starting to get a little uncomfortable. I would hate to see the level of interaction we have had so far cease because of it.
And yes, while there wasn't much in the way of information thrown at us yesterday, I could have quite easily sat there for twice as long watching that |

Great post Hamma and I can only echo your words,
There are just some people out there who don't have a checking station between brain and keyboard and will write any old nonsense without regard to others and they don't care how or what they say can upset or piss off others just because it doesn't register to them or fit into their own personal "universe" aka that freak show they call a mind. It's amazing how many end up here on the internet I've said it before and I'll say it again. Thanks to all the SOE PS2 dev's for making us part of your development for Planetside 2, a lot of us really appreciate it. I know it can be hard but try not to listen or get pissed off from the fools. Honestly, they can't help themselves it's part of being a fool.

I completly agree with you, what higby, the-ray and all the other devs are doing is amazing! and I think we all really appreciate it. But that doesn't mean we should not complain. I'm talking generaly here not about the thing last night, I was lolling alot, whenever/if they do something stupid we should call them out on it. Most of us are just as exited about the game and want it to be great as the devs. But in the end we're the consumers and they are the producer/company, we're supposed to point out what's(if there is) something wrong with the product so it can be perfected. Naw, every now and then people need a wake up call. It's not out of control or anything.. but it's important for a gentle reminder.
Constructive feedback on this process is very important, feedback on features we have heard about and they are planning on doing. |

I agree, it's a damned shame this post was needed when we are getting an incredible amount of interaction and discussion from the Devs.
Great thread Hamma.

Personally having met T-ray and Higby I am so incredibly happy to have them working out this game. They both have 100% of my respect as does the whole PS2 team. That being said, having met Matt Higby and spending time talking about this game in person there is no doubt in my mind that he loves this game. PS1 is a game like none other and PS2 will be the same and I'm glad we have a dev's team like no other. Thank's to all the Dev's that either silently or openly reads the fourms it means alot to me.

I feel like a defensive fanboi sometimes, since I tend to be very uncritical about most of the stuff we've seen about PS2.
Some of my defensiveness probably stems from the fact that I don't want this to ever start to become a toxic environment for the dev team. Healthy, free, open debate is great. Disagreement is awesome. It's a boring community that agrees on everything, or thinks that everything is peachy keen. Even for all of my positivity, I've had my share of dislikes of a tidbit of new information here or a gameplay change there. I just dislike when people come into the PS2 part of the message board and start bemoaning the entire PS2 project, or shitting on the dev teams or the PSU staffs amazing work. If you're that stuck on Planetside 1, stick to Planetside 1 forums. Maybe a couple of the PS2 changes will eventually get reverted to a more familiar PS1 style, but if the entirety of PS2 sounds shit to you, just move on. This should be a place for people who are actually interested in the game. (edit: That's not to say that every feature shouldn't be debated. Both PS1 features and PS2 changes.) The development team owes us nothing. The level of community interaction is to be admired and commended. Let's not forget that there hasn't even been a beta date released. To have so much interaction at any stage is great, and to have so much information being released so early is unbelievable. I can understand worrying about SOE's less than stellar track record, but let's try not to let past sins cloud the present. Higby, TRay, everyone, they have all been great. Not just informative, but a lot of fun. It is sad that this thread was warranted, but it was. I just hope everyone steps back and tries to have some perspective before starting a thread, or posting an inflammatory comment. Remember how uncommunicative most dev teams are. Remember how long (unknown) it is until PS2 gets released. Remember what made Planetside truly unique compared to every other shooter. Last edited by Xyntech; 2011-12-09 at 10:02 AM. |

i was flaming soe a lot some time ago, when they did their announcement of an announcement stuff ;-)
but since matt opened up to the community the interaction just went crazy and i totally love this! the downside is, that this hypes some peoples expectations and they get disappointed whenever those expectations are not met. too bad, but that´s not the fault of the devs. it´s the fault of the expecting people. before last nights show it was kind of clear what it would be about.there were several guesses pointing at the right thing. and everybody who is disappointed now, because there was no beta announcement is just stupid. we just learned 1 day ago, that a guy starts working on vanu max next. so the game isn´t ready for beta, yet. if you have too high expectations, and get disappointed, keep it for yourself, because it´s your fault ;-) i don´t want the interactivity to die down because the devs get afraid to overhype and disappoint us. this game will be the next big milestone for mmo games and the interactice developement may become a new standard never seen before. don´t mess that up and prove the suits right by doing so! give as much feedback as you like, but keep it constructive! the devs are as excited about the game as we are. keep their mood up! i am sure that we will see how much fun they had making this game, when it´s ready. |
