The number one reason I switched from playing Tribes 2 to Planetside 1 was that there was no bunny hopping targets. I know stamina is removed in Planetside 2, and that "bunny hopping will have little benefit" implying that there is some benefit. Newb players wont know this and most likely will bunny hop all the time thinking that their benefit is the same as other non stamina games.
Stamina helped slowed down the pace of grueling battles, forcing one to manage their use of implants and their dashes between cover towards a target. Cover was actually your best friend because if you ran out of stamina in a firefight, you immediately were looking for cover to rest up. And it made constant bunny hopping detrimental in a standard fight. If you want the devs to consider bringing back stamina if only to prevent bunny hopping, please sign or feel free to comment your views below. Last edited by inigma; 2011-12-12 at 02:07 PM. |

Just make it literally impossible to hit the broad side of the barn while jumping.
Some people will still jump when trying to avoid being shot though, but as long as it's not a 1v1 tactic, I don't really mind. They could also perhaps make it so that you either can't jump that often or when landing there is some little stumble kind of animation that delays you/slows you down.

That sounds like a good plan (the idea of landing on the ground having a brief animation that prevents firing). Also, it would be a great idea to like, QUADRUPLE the size of your reticle when you jump, again making firing basically useless while jumping.
I, too, am VERY worried that Bunny Hopping might be a viable combat tactic (because it looks idiotic), but I think that its combat-usefulness can be nullified even without the stamina system. However, I am 100% on board with SOE making sure that Bunny Hopping is not going to have a place in Planetside 2. ~Zachariah |

Stanima is removed? Where did you get that from?
edit: oh, nvm, i actually forgot that, lol. Uhm, i rather wait and see, according to Higby it wont give you an advantage. Last edited by basti; 2011-12-12 at 02:46 PM. |

There are a lot of ways to prevent bunny hopping. Higby seemed pretty confident that trying to do it would only make you look foolish in PS2.
Planetsides stamina method worked, but it was clunky. I hope for better in PS2, but I'll take anything that prevents bunny hopping. Jumping around like a lunatic is great in Unreal Tournament, but I just don't want that shit in Planetside. I'd rather see jumping be very limited. but be able to climb over obstacles. Much more realistic than jumping half your height and it can let you get over or onto obstacles that are taller than you are. I know that they are removing vehicle entry animations, but those would be unique for each vehicle. You wouldn't need that many climbing animations in comparison. |

The old Stamina system really sucked as a cloaker. Having to wait for stamina so I can use sensor shield again, or surge, or health regen.
But if they implemented some kind of way to aid stamina like stim packs, faster regen, bigger stamina pool, etc, through perks or items, it wouldn't mind trying it out again

Having Jump Packs will be something different than Bunny Hoppers, flying and leaping around will be what they are meant to do. Bunny Hopping is just unrealistic (as if we could jump half our height from standing in full armor?) and it's very bad chemistry when it's actually a viable combat tactic. I am looking forward to having my fears put to rest when I learn how Bunny Hopping is being made "unhelpful."
That will be good. ~Zachariah |

Jet packs may not be the most realistic thing ever (not completely implausible though), but having someone rise 30 feet into the air is going to disturb me a lot less than someone bouncing up and down. I spent most of my time on VS, but the jump jetting MAXes never bothered my sense of immersion, both fighting with them or against them. It's just like the bad net code and spamming ADADAD. It's an annoying, exploitative tactic. Again, jumping around like crazy is fine in games designed around it, but it's just bothersome to me in any game that has even a remote leaning towards realism. |
