Conjecture - Maybe I'm blind but I don't see crosshairs-- laser used to compensate?

Damn, I didn't even notice the laser sight since Higby threw me off focusing on the buildings. Nice pick up. The buildings do look awesome by the way. The bases are going to be soooo much better than Planetside 1. It's several orders of magnitude better.

It's like if the coolness of PS 1 bases were a diamond, then the coolness of PS2 bases are not just a city made of diamonds, or a country made of diamonds, or a continent made of diamonds, or a planet made of diamons, but it's like a whole GALAXY made of diamonds. That's how much cooler the bases look...and we haven't even seen the inside yet!

Looks sweet! Thanks for getting a new phone

Will you be able to laze people in the eye's similar to BF3? Will a laser give away your position in night vision? Can you put the attachment on any weapon?

Whoops one more... will the VS laser attachment be able to do damage?

I have been refraining from saying something for a while now, but I haven't really seen the topic approached yet. First, Higby; your team has done a wonderfully amazing job rendering a lush, dense, enticing world to play in. My hat is tipped to the people in the pit making it happen.

But here is the rub. This is a FPS game, amazing sunsets, engrossing terrain, and high avatar detail, while sweet don't put bullets on the hit box. My concern is that people will optimize settings that allow for the highest settings and frames per second that drives the least amount of latency. This sliding inverse scale of Performance vs. Eye Candy I think is going to come into play.

I say this because, personally if I can turn all the glare off from the atmosphere in the graphic settings which gives me a sighting advantage because I am not having my frame of sight reference blurred due to light bloom, then it is an advantage to me. I will turn down the graphics and reduce my personal enjoyment factor in order to be more effective in the core function of this game, shooting people dead. With this reduced graphics I am able to pick up, recognize, and site in on a target in a more expedient fashion and put bullets on the hit box.

I just really hate to see all your hard efforts to create an amazing world be muted by hard core ninja's who play to shoot people in the face, not be wowed by a sunset. I think that this balancing act between Shooter Performance vs. Stunning Graphics is something that can be somewhat dealt with in knowing the kind of CPU, Northbridge, HD accessing/paging and Graphics loads we can expect to see in order to figure out if this is a moot point, or something to be addressed on an ongoing basis.

Looking forward to some amazing progress in 2012. Go Beta announcement!!

In addition to what Miir said, will the Laser Attachment "increase hip fire accuracy," (add bonuses to accuracy) etc, or is it mainly used as an indicator when ADS?

You make a great point, but I seem to remember them mentioning that visuals that might give a gameplay advantage (like toggling the plants in PS1) won't be optional. However, they say the graphic quality is scalable.

I'm really intruiged to see how that works together because it's still hard for me to imagine PS2 running that smooth with the graphics level we've seen when I spent years scrounging every single frame per second I could in the original Planetside. I know, 8 years, new engine, all that. It's just hard for me to grasp.

Morto! Enhance!

Nice new phone Higby. Your team does amazing work. I'm sure you are as proud of them as we are.

Thanks for keeping the pics flowing man. They don't need to be every day, we love how much we get

Where's the damn food though? You're holding out on us. Everybody knows pics with bacon are more awesome.

I love how diverse the clouds are. The fact that we'll be able to fly through some of those layers is gonna be great. The base is looking nice too.

So are bases going to be modular? Like 3 different basic types of bases, with slightly different outer walls and placement of buildings within and outside of the courtyard? I know you guys are making bases more like actual maps in other shooters, so I'm just curious how different the layouts will tend to be.

What, no lunch today?

Awesome pic btw, I'm wondering if the laser will be visible by others as a line or just a red dot.

hehe finally i figured out the one thing, nc, vanu and terrans agree on!

everything gets more awesome with bacon!
so don´t hide it, the lunch thread should not die!

the bases look so great! i remember reading a shitload of complains about ps1´s bases getting boring so fast, and that people left the game because everything looks the same. another issue, the devs adressed right from the start of developement!

new pic quality rocks!
thanks for sharing such great pics with us, matt!

another question:
those light blue glowy parts we see on all the base pics, are those faction colors and subject to change when another faction captures it?
