What's in a Name.

If you were on AGN tonight, you heard it first - we have confirmation by Higby on Name Reservations!

I for one am extremely excited about this - the legacy of my name, MgFalcon, has been in the works long before Planetside 1 and continues today with my email, PSN gamertag (kinda), even a tattoo, and countless other games.

And I know to many of you, your gamertags/in-game names bear a great load of weight in recognition to yourself and your legacies throughout the years of gaming. Even to a causal gamer it has become their second identity. To have some nobody come in on day one and steal any of our names would be a great dishonor and bring fourth extreme hatred (at least in my case).

I'm not trying to kiss-ass here, but in my most sincere tone: Thank you, Higby! You are giving myself and the community the best gift for PS2 that we hadn't thought about until tonight: our names.

This topic had actually been brought up before around the time of PS2's announcement but it was mainly about outfit names and we didn't get a positive response. Really glad Higby agreed to this, now I just hope I can keep the -J at the end of my name. I know one friend who actually added the J to his normal SN so there's definitely some love there.

Crazyduckling! Although I can't imagine too many people would want that name... I will also capitalize it this time around.

This is pretty cool, I was hoping something like this would happen before release. Even better, it'll give the dev team an idea of how much interest there is in the game at present.

Did he mention how? Because I don't want any of my names in PS1... lol. I want my new name x.x

Unless you can reserve 1-3 names that you already own as PS1 characters or station login its pointless. if its some first come first serve thing where you can reserve your name weeks in advance, what's the point?

I'd say it'd be nice to get the chance to reserve a name. Maybe it'd be an easier chance to pull off the name you've always carried, but then again I can't help but think what's the difference between early reservation and release date where it's basically the same thing, first come first serve. (There's probably something I'm leaving out) lol

It could definitely be part of the veteran reward. Hell..any way to get the name you really want to play with would be amazing! ^-^

Yep, as an idea it is great and I had hoped for this.

Q.
How many name reservations per person? (I have 3 chars I'd like to reserve for instance)
Can we reserve outfit names?
What is the qualification? (Current subscribers at the time when PS2 launches? Those who have subscribed within the last x period? Those who have been subscribed for x years of the total 9 years of PS? Those who pre-purchase and buys the PS2 Ultimate pack? By invitation, an email from SOE with a digital key of some kind?)

These were my thoughts as well. I for one had multiple characters that I played through, is there a limit to the number of names we can reserve? Reserving outfit names would also be great.

I'm sure there's plenty of malicious people out there who'd steal an outfit's or player's name just in spite of them.

It'd be nice if name reservation was somehow tied into your actual account. I don't know how they'd make that work, but that's the only real fair way I see to properly get your name reserved.

Will it not be quite difficult for them to reserve names if they dont know what servers we will be on yet? Surely the same name is allowed to appear on 2 different servers?

Yes, I surely imagine that the same name could be used on different servers. I guess we'll need to wait and see what system they come up with for name-reservation.

Yea had it happen to my outfits mates in afew games(and it wasent random chance that somebody else used the same name, they were stollen, and we know by who...quite amusing stomping them into the ground..they probably tried on me afew times, but i sit at the login screen and spam enter until servers come online, reserve my names and then try for everybody else not online), its what happens when you're well known and people know what server you're rolling on...also its not like you have a choice when you're australian...you roll the same server as every other australian or spend the time you play cutting yourself.
