With Beta approaching I can't help but realize; I'm sitting here with a dusty old 8800GT 512mb (albeit a water-cooled, factory overclocked variant), and a 2.66 dual core intel. Looking at the screenshots you guys are putting out I'm thinking, "There's no way my box could draw that at playable fps." I know I'm not the only one thinking that, either.
So, devs, how hard are you going to punch me in the wallet? It'd be nice to have some lead time to prepare my setup for Beta. |

Yeah, I'm hoping the specs will be released soon too, as I'm running on a 2.53 intel duo. Still, they're supposedly targeting 5-6 year old machines so assuming that it's optimised to hell and back, we should be fine.
Also, remember that those pics will probably be taken on maximum graphics settings (for impact). Our computers probably won't have to render stuff that spectacularly detailed. |

Computer, prepare for maximum graphics! Preparing for maximum graphics. MAXIMUM GRAPHICS! Maximum graphics. Only have a 580 right now, don't know what nVidilord will have out by then but we will not stop, we will never surrended until graphics are no longer able to improve! Unfortunately I only have 1920x1080 on an oldish 40" TV so I can't render in 2500ish love but Ill make sure everything else is top! I promise T-Ray, I PROMISE! |

Recommended specs?
Octuple-Xeon server with 128GB of RAM, 28 SSD's in Raid 50, triple Nvidia or quadruple AMD video cards, liquid-nitrogen cooling, and a Razer Orochi mouse. At least, that's what I recommend.

Here we go, I found a computer that will run it on max. And dare I say, 16x AA? Well, maybe 8x.
Shazaaaam!

Oh dear, you guys are in a dire need for an upgrade
I think my GPU could use upgrade for PS2, at least if I'm gonna Fraps like I'm planning to (see my YouTube link in signature). I have: Phenom II X6 1090T mildly overclocked at 3,5ghz, should be capable of easily at least 4ghz with default cooler HD5770 1GB 8GB of DDR3 1333mhz 750w PSU

Remember, the Devs are AMAZED at how quick-moving and fluid the Forgelight Engine is; they're saying that it will process really impressive graphics even on middle-to-low-end machines. Now, I would certainly love to upgrade my system for Planetside 2, but even now, my rig is really solid (I play all my games on 1920x1050 with at least x2 AA plus details/textures/decals set to max). However, I think that we're ALL going to be impressed at how agile the Forgelight Engine is!

Hopefully my current computer doesn't interfere with me getting into beta, but I think it should be fine for running the game on lower settings at least. |

If you are thinking of upgrading, now is a good time. Get an Intel Sandy Bridge CPU. It's by far the best performance per dollar and will allow you to run any modern game extremely well. Games are rapidly getting to the point where a quad-core CPU is recommended (if not already the case).
It will be interesting to see how PS2 performs. I suspect, like many FPSes and PS1, it will be more dependent on the CPU rather than the GPU. So if you have to make a choice between a kick-ass GPU or CPU, the CPU is probably the better bet. |
