The sound design of PS2

Now that PS2 is getting closer to beta, I'm hoping we start hearing more about a very important aspect of the game, the sound. Specifically wondering if the audio side of things will be getting as much of an upgrade as the visuals, and how sounds in PS2 might effect gameplay. I'd love to see a "Sound Design" themed week that features examples of engine noises, gunshots, ambiance, and the process of implementing a soundscape on such a major scale. Also hoping that the engineers might pop in here and give us a few tidbits on the topic.

And here is a sound only video for you m8

There isn't much footage without the team talking or music on it, this is the only bit I can find with in game sound only. Also I turned it up a little.

Since Higby showed his home sound equipment, I haven't worried about it.

I'm still curious about the music.

Nice job on the vid. Love that distant explosion at the end.

It sounds to me as if the prowler has a whistle to its firing? Or some sort of vacuum effect, could just be the quality, but it seems to make a strange noise when firing, but I like it.

I would love to hear more about what the sound design is all about - I am a firm believer that music and sound immersion is just as important as game play to make it a world I (and others) want to spend a large amount of time in.

Having a battle theme for each empire released would result in a FLOOD of community vids - perhaps why they are holding off a bit, until we get more footage?

This man. He speaks truth. Higby and Co. have been fighting for more "Empire" support to raise awareness for Planetside 2. Some good themes for each empire would be great.

Perhaps as a coincidental release with the empire slogans?
