Evening all,
just had a bit of a brain wave, i dont think ive seen any information about this/discussion on the subject perviously and thought i would register and post to get your idea's. What do you think about having Outfit Controlled bases within PS2, similar to DAOC frontier Keeps (where a guild was responsible for upgrades and repairs) starting off, all bases are neutral, when a base is captured, an outfit could have the option to use a pool of resources, to stake a claim on the base. the outfit logo would be displayed around the place... they could pay for additional upgrades as well, better turrets, shields, radar etc etc. this could bring benefits to that outfit, such as maybe discounted or faster re spawn's on vehicles, or resource generation. or maybe even some sort of 'hearthstone' to allow outfit members to recall there in return the outfit would get notifications from the base about its current condition, power levels, ammo count?, enemy activity Discuss.... |

I approve of this idea, it would be nice though to have a system of claiming a base though, not just a first come first serve basis like in other games...like contribution to the cap and then a priority system for claiming it.

I like the idea. My only concern is that instead of people attempting to protect the base when a hack is on. We will have 40 people gathered around the CC with there Rek out all trying to be the first to claim a base. IMO leave it to tower's only being controlled by outfits or nothing at all.
I'm more interested in how the Galaxy and Sunderer is going to turn out. Especially when we find out about what deployable's the Engy's will get/ Like walls etc. Create your own base out in the middle of no where near the fight. With a gal as a spawn and a few Sunderers set up near by for extra defense repair features and so on. IMO that would be a lot cooler. Especially if you could buy a flag in the cash shop that displays your outfit logo. Plop that baby up outside my outfit created base. Lets see the VS and TR try and kick us out of that grid. They have talked about outfit abilities. One would hope that this includes a tree based around base defense.
I don't think we need a full system of claimship. With the tools they have announced, I can see the possibility of fortification. Outfits that pick out a base, lay down mines, turrets, wall off the doors with surrenders and deploy galaxy as a reserve spawn point. That is just with the stuff they have talked about. They could add even more like artillery turret's or bunker surrender variants. Ninjaed. Deploying outfit flags is a good idea too. Last edited by nomotog; 2012-01-26 at 07:14 PM. |

Y'know, I played Dark Age of Camelot and Warhammer Online, and both featured guild-controlled castles, and neither really gave me any reason to care about the ownership. I mean, you're basically just renting these places for a day or two at most until you lose them anyway. I have vastly more appreciation for structures that are built out of nothing by players and guilds. Renting bases I could take or leave, it has never instilled within me any memorable feelings.

it would need to be prohibitively expensive to claim a base, leaving it only to the most well organised, and there for funded, Outfits. and to stop the 40 players with a REK around the CC.
being tied to the presence of the outfit during capture could be a good shout aswell i know the DAOC keeps didnt really give much bonus, apart from the street cred, but i imagine it would be easier for more worthwhile bonuses to be granted in PS2 than in DAOC |

I can see the logistics of this being horrible. I thought PS2 was trying to flatten its learning curve?
Maybe deployable tower's would be cool at the most. The way they said it when the idea was first introduced, I thought they meant fully functioning facilities - I was like, "why the hell?" |

The idea would sound cool but would be complicated to implement and imo, would also interfere with Empire objectives.
I'd rather see a system that increases fame by, for example, providing stats about who and which outfits contributed the most/performed the best during the capture of a base. Then stats at the end of a season calculating which empires did best (total sum of territory held over time) along with which groups/individuals did best in an empire (by stats group). To me, that would make the game more entertaining than getting your own castle and sitting in it all day long. Anyways, it's a cool idea but I can't see of a way to implement it well. Achievements, medals, customization rewards, etc... I see that as more entertaining. The most enjoyable part of PS1 has always been to have an entertaining excuse to play with a nice group of people. As long as PS2 is an entertaining game and also a good excuse to play with great people, it will be fun for a long time. That's the MMO part. |

Believe it or not this was discussed very early after the release of the original Planetside, if not during the beta phases. I remember at the time there was mention of this potentially happening in an update, but then again a lot of things were mentioned as being in possible updates that never were. The implementation of it would have been horrible though with the already existing game.
Only way it could possibly work in my opinion is if its like that from the beginning, which I don't think it would be, main reason being that the implementation would be complicated. I love the idea of outfits having something to call their own that they can customize, upgrade, brag about and so forth, but I'm just not sure an actual base is the right thing for this. That being said, it'd be cool if outfits could have something they could customize and make their own, somewhere they could meet up and have discussions, trainings, etc...even inviting allied outfits for planned events and so forth. I don't know where or what it would be (haven't they said there would be no sanctuaries?) but I just like the idea of outfits being able to distinguish themselves with more than a name and an emblem.
