Hi, no previous playtime on PS1 so don't judge if I say something that are practically impossible/useless.
Will there be any place for the implementation of ambushing tactics on PS2? I'm talking seeing a dozen or so tanks with infantry support approaching your base and taking down a couple of engineers to lay defences, snipers covering the convoy and stealth units to get into position around a chokepoint. Maybe a different tactic could be to launch a sabotage behind enemy lines and then wait in position for the enemy recapture squads to arrive and ambush them? Like I said, just throwing ideas out there, feel free to discuss and add ideas |

One word:
Yes More words: Yes, possible, ofc possible. But how useful such tactics are fully depens on the situation. If you get a small squad together and all just go for Full AV damage with whatever you have at your disposal (quads, Lightnings, Maxes, Air, etc), sneak up on a big enemy tank collum, hit them hard, and then run like fuck (especialy run like fuck), then yea, you did good and propably helped your empire a good bit by stopping that enemy tank collum for the time being. So yea, really depens on the situation, and that always changes, 24/7/365. |

The key with ambush is having the cover to allow you to wait until the enemy is in a kill zone before you strike, yet also see where they are while they cannot see you. To make it easier I used a single tank as bait while the rest of my magriders waited, luring them back until they were too far forward to escape once we opened fire.
The screenshots we are seeing so far show a lot more concealment available, as well as canyons that will funnel players into certain areas so it should be a lot easier to pull off. |

With the full day night cycle in planetside 2. Its gonna make ambush tactics alot more common this go around. In some of the video that we have seen it gets really dark.
There should also be plenty of canyons from which to spring ambushes. |

Why is there no Admiral Ackbar picture yet?
I'm not sure ambushes can be appropriately implemented into the game, for there's never a certain "travel route" and what's more important - there's no way to tell when and where the enemy is going to move in coloumn, which was by itself a very rare occasion in original PS. Hmm, in PS1 you could lay an ambush for the LLU or ANTs. But you have a good point. Although we don't know much about the game right now, I don't think it's not safe to assume that traveling is not going to play as big a part as before. BUT! Higby did mention something similar to a capture-the-flag type deal in the webcast's chat the other day. But there's absolutley 0 details on that so far. (but he did say no LLU) |
