Anyone who's even BRIEFLY SKIMMED one of my posts knows that I am a straight-up Combat Engineer: a tricked-out rifle and as many tactical explosives as I can carry. It interests me that TwoThreeSix said in the webcast that "all Classes can unlock C4 or mines" (and that they can take up the "hand grenade" slot). Now, TwoThreeSix has also said on Twitter (in direct response to me, God bless him) that "the Engineer is the demolitionist, they get the best and widest array of explosives."
I am very curious as to where these two things intersect with each other! I am also very curious as to what unique explosives the Engineer will get beyond what other Classes can use. Perhaps, also, Engineers will have more unlocks/sidegrades that allow them to carry "more" explosives than other Classes (ie- Heavy or Light Assault can hold 2 charges of C4, whereas an Engineer can carry 6, etc). Other people? Thoughts? ~Zachariah |

No, you're definitely right; an Engineer also has tons of other deployables. Turrets, barriers, etc. Explosives are only one of their realms of ability. It's the only one I focus on (I'm a specialist, not a generalist), but you're definitely right.
And the cool thing is, even WITH all those realms of ability, the Engineer is STILL the explosives expert! YUS! ~Zachariah |

Hrmm.. that's possible; I may have misheard/misremembered. But yeah, given that TwoThreeSix said "Engineers get the best and widest array of explosives," it certainly sounds like there will be quite a few that they get that other Classes don't. For instance, it doesn't sound like "All Classes have access to 2 kinds of explosives. Engineers have access to 3 kinds." o.O
Thank God o.O ~Zachariah |

Well, regardless of who has what, I do imagine that engineers would be able to have more of the c4/boomers.
But that does leave the question of how much the other classes have, and in a similar fashion, how many grenades total do we expect people to be carrying? |

Is it still the case that all boomers, mines, and grenades cost resources?
Sounds like it will prevent spam, but that never bothered me and I'll be sad if I can't grab 75 plasma grenades to chuck down the stairs of a tower over the thumper users' heads. Sometimes there are just too many people in too small a space. Also, paying for mines seems counterproductive to people using mines effectively and in sufficient numbers. This is not a good thing. |

As a player who devotes nearly 50% of their entire gameplay experience to setting explosives, I can say that I'm "cautiously fine" by such items costing resources, especially if there are higher-level unlocks to reduce the resource cost of players who want to specialize in such activities.
So for instance, a Light Assault soldier who doesn't particularly specialize in explosives can buy a C4 demopak for 50 resources (of whatever type), but a dedicated (high-level, extensively-unlocked) Engineer can buy them for just 10 resources, because they know that they intend to use them more, and it's worth spending the experience on such a certification. I don't think such certifications have been confirmed, but I think they've been discussed to some degree. ~Zachariah |

I hope any "cost" for materiel comes out of a general faction pool rather than some personalised wallet, otherwise PS2 will become a very segregated and elitist sort of game where the majority get little or no access to the funner and more expensive items.

I don't mind everyone having C4 so long as you cant do retarded crap like in some of the Battlefields. Where you throw it out an detonate it instantly like a more powerful grenade. I want those things to take like 5 seconds to arm.
Everyone having them does mean you might not get a unique role like being able to blast through certain marked weakspots in walls though. Makes me think hacking probably requires no tool or skill anymore either. Or that any class can do it. It actually brings up an interesting idea though. That of all infantry get a general tool slot that can hold a choice of C4, Hacking Tool, Medkit or other utility devices. Last edited by Sifer2; 2012-02-26 at 01:41 AM. |
