It's not a big thing but it would be cool to have. Not BF3 style sniper scope glare that randomly happens but actual scope glare on optical sights that glints if you catch the sun just right.
As I said it's not a big, game changing feature but like animations is PS1 (Where are they SOE? ) it's a small addition that would be really cool! Also you could have a cover over your lens to stop this with a little bit of reduced visibility. An attachment for your attachment if you like. Thoughts? Now for why it just wouldn't work from a RP standpoint: how can a cloaked sniper rifle "glare"?

I think if they're planning on keeping in sniper rifle tracers as per PS1 then this would not really be needed. I guess it depends how they handle it. Being able to tell where snipers are in a big open world like Planetside is pretty important, though, so either some kind of glare or the tracers or whatever. Snipers cannot shoot while cloaked, so glare while cloaked wouldn't matter.
I would opt for a glare and maybe a device that gives you the general location the sound originated from. You might toggle it like DarkLight and it would "triangulate" the shot origin of high caliber shots. |

The BF3 implementation is horrible. You get a bright glare even when the sun is behind the sniper, and can see the glare at huge angles. I think it would be a waste of time to implement the glare correctly, because it would be so rare to see it in a real situation.

I was under the impression that shooting uncloaked you, not that you had to uncloak to even look through your scope.

Surely anti-reflective coating is primitive compared to VS tech. You'd think VS would be plugging weapon targeting systems into a neural interface to make super accurate shots no human could ever make.

Even if you'd take the position of the sun into consideration, it would need an extra balancing pass. (this goes for both scope glint and pilot sun glare) I mean, imagine on the continent X, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west with a slight southern tilt.
VS, having their foot hold in the South East, TR in the South West , and NC in the north. VS will get glints/glares in the evening when they attack TR, but never while attacking NC. TR will have it in the morning while attacking VS but never against NC. NC will be at a constant disadvantage no matter who they attack. (or if there's no tilt, they'll never have a disadvantage) BF3 failed miserably at that, especially on Caspian Border where the Russians always had the sun in their back. TL;DR version: Could be cool, but can easily skew empire balance. Last edited by Boomzor; 2012-02-27 at 12:40 PM. |

Each empire already has environmental concerns on each planet. During X time, TR can rush VS bases on X planet with the sun at their back, making it harder for the VS to shoot them. During X time, NC can pass over a ridge to a TR base on planet X with the sun at their back, making it easier for the NC to cross undetected. They've hinted at the fact that they want environment to play a role (Fog, clouds, sun, day/night) when planning attacks. |
