So PS1 outfits going to make a killing on recruits?

So I have a feeling that the PS1 outfits are going to make a KILLING in recruits if they plan to do any recruiting for PS2. Not to mention all the returning players who will be looking to rejoin there original outfits. We might see the return of players that have been gone for years and years and years.

GOTR, AT, BL, and all you scrummy TR outfits (<3, I really just dont know your names). I imagine that with the influx of people we are going to have for PS2 that there is going to be a LOT of "recruits" looking to get in to our veteran outfits. I know thats one thing that always happens in MMO. New players see's the veteran guilds/squads/clans/outfits and is marveled at what they have accomplished since the start and want in on it. Big cash in for recruiting is that label that says "Playing PS since 2003"

Anyone else excited to see this start to unfold? No more one or two empty platoon slots, nope we will be have 2-3 PLATOONS running around again. This makes me smile inside.

On a side note, I wouldn't be too surprised if we see Higby's team start to hook the bigger more still formed and active outfits beta access. I know alot of games do it. *shrug* Just a thought.

(Sorry Hamma, I have nothing to do all day but sit and talk on forums, don't feel bad, I am hitting D3 forums as hard as I'm hitting PSU =P)

I hope they are building a very in depth and customisable outfit system in-game. A basic template with robust features that can be changed around as the outfit leader(s) see fit.

It will make things so much easier especially with outfit ranks and such. It will also make it easier for new recruits as they wont have to sign up to an additional forum site to know what is going on.

I would also like to see say 3-4 squads to a platoon at 10 people each, and the possibility of 2-4 platoons being able to be linked together to form say a Brigade.

How much of a bad day would it be for a base to have say 160 people in an organized cluster $)#* (Yes I just said organized cluster) with a few designated squad leader and the brigade leader guiding all these troops in on one base =P It would be a true and epic experience. It would be like what Planetside 1 was back in 2003, but in modern day standards. Something that can rival all other games squad/team based combat.

Whoa, yer killin me, lol. Coupla platoons should be a company There are few levels of T.O. between those two. Though, Im with ya on the higher linked echelons, which I think is a must for PS2, at least to company level.

I would love to see depth to the brigade level, but at bare minimum, that would be about...

...roughly 100 men for a small company... then
...say 300 for a small battalion...then
...say under-strength Brigade at 600-900...
...so, its feasable to get the Brigade level T.O. in place at least.

Very interested in some of the other mechanics to the outfit system would be good for the game... Im sure there will be a robust "ranking" system in place. But what about other things like department affiliation, for instance linking someone with armor, inf. etc? Also, things like setting permissions for various officers, especially not just invite/kick, but rather set those as seperate permissions.

Any other outfit-based administrative tools sound good? Outfit perks? Etc.?

Edit: Typing too fast, fixed some errors

Even just a basic banking system would be a great addition. You can set a tax on your players resource income (max 5% for example) then someone with a permission could use the resource bank to spawn vehicles for other outfit members. It would also hopefully tie in with the later addition of outfit deployables.

So you want to get technical with me EH? Well! I was in the USAF, so I could have said Squadron instead of brigade...

And I am totally down for some outfit perks.

I'm with GOTR and we've had some discussions about recruiting, we're definitely going to hit the ground running in that department, along with a huge backlog of returning players.

I definitely think returning guilds will have a huge advantage in the first few weeks because they're going to know exactly how the game works due to Beta access, and thus they're going to look pretty badass and attractive to newcomers.

At the same time a lot of vets are older, so they're going to be at a skill level disadvantage against the newer players who grew up playing twitchier shooters than Planetside. Luckily I've been playing Tribes nonstop for years... =P

Haha, someone hadta do it! Yeah, I would be a little lost on AF designations, Ima ground pounder ex-marine.

Thats one of the things I like about this game, higher than ussual ex-military playerbase. Hmm, wounder why... lol

Id like some prior outfit leaders, planetside or otherwise to chime in here too about perks and structure they always wish they had. Since... I havent run an outfit since netmech from a time when multiplayer was a new thing.

I ran the Jade Falcons (only 90 members peak), as Olaf Pryde back in those days, but there were no outfit structures back then except for the one I had to make myself as a Webpage. So I am very interested to know what kind of depth there will be for outfits in the game.

I've noticed a lot of old TRG coming out of the woodworks that I haven't seen in years because of planetside 2. We're also now seeing new recruits of old ps1 guys who were never in our outfit but are now looking for a new home. One thing is for sure: the game is bringing people back to life.

At first I had the same feeling Synapse. There is no way to deny old outfit's are going to start out with more members and hopefully some cohesion. Depending on how much propaganda the outfit uses will really define how many 'new' recruits they get.

In the end I believe it's going to come down to what outfits actually work in the new game, whether they be old school or new. A lot of changes are being made and this is going to be a whole new world for all of us.

As an outfit leader all you can do is ensure your guy's are a shining example of your doctrines, constantly pursuing victory. Without that all the recruitment propaganda is useless. If your good the recruits will come to you.

I am looking forward to many old faces coming out of the woodwork to rejoin my Vindicators, some of which we wont have seen in years.

I do however want to bring us up to running a full platoon (even if it is 4 squads) to match our heyday in the original game. With PS2 I imagine we will see a lot more players than the original ever saw, free to play will be the most important change for the game as subscription fee severely harmed PSs potential player base.

Well, I hope you're upfront with them before they join and tell them;
"Most of your ingame time will be spent in some back water base FAR off the beaten path (Zotz) 'training' on how to get your asses handed to you like you did in PS1"

Big + for GOTR. I've played with you guys on and off (Stryder if you remember me - which you probably don't) and i've always found it a good mix of fun and play-to-win. GOTR's leadership structure is brilliant, some very solid, non-meglomanic people in the positions of power which is bloody rare.

Can't praise this outfit enough really. If i wasn't in London i'd be with you guys at launch, the TZ difference kills me.

But yes, established outfits will certainly have a large advantage but its all good.

Re: So PS1 outfits going to make a killing on recruits?

I am part of zerg.
I use to roll with KAAOS then another TR outfit I vaguely remember for a long time before I joined the Zerg. I have a serious hard-on for BWC but their play style is a little too constricted for my play-style, Never the less, I don't think I would lasted long anyway in any outfit due to the fact that when I was younger I had a serious anger problem and was sensitive little pup but I am hoping I see some of my old friends though.

I always have great admiration for outfits with coordination, skill and most of bonds. Its those outfits, that are able to turn the tides of war and win the day for their empire. Whats even more amazing, is that I have seen many guilds fall and separate but those that are truly worthy are able to withstand the test of time; it must be great being part of a brotherhood that you can call home for the years to come.

As far as PS2, I feel things are going to be much different then it was in PS1, everyone nowadays wants to be "heroes" and thus that creates Killwhores. Then you got your "Gamer Gurls" who are shit and all of the above which is guaranteed summon the white knights that are willing to overturn a well executed strategy or a brotherhood for a useless piece of meat. Lets not forget the whiny man children who complain about how horrific a game is when they are constantly getting killed or the inevitable attention whores that will spam the Global chat with shit no-one cares about.

As you can tell, I've been through some shit and I'm sure some of you know all to well what I'm talking about.
No matter what Empire you are,I always have respect for those who are cool-headed, know what the fuck they are doing and know when to give the boot to unwanted pieces of shit, which PS2 is guaranteed to bring. To me this is another test, to all those outfits that been together for years, will they become stronger or will they become just a memory? only time will tell, however its still gonna be one hell of a ride.
